Festival of Quilts

Just over a week ago I went down to the NEC at Birmingham to see Festival of Quilts (FoQ), I had a wonderful 3 days seeing lots of textile art and meeting people I have known via e mail for sometime, I had lunch with Friday and saw Myfanwy at her stand and ofcourse bought some luscious threads,
There are so many quilts and I seem to have taken less photos this year but here鈥檚 a few,

Rustyko by Hillka Luosa, Finland,
The name Rustyko comes from the words rustic and rusty, I wanted to make a quilt of minimalistic design with rusty colours, materials: linen, silk, wool, paper thread, linen thread and woollen thread, machine quilted,

Red Tree by Stephanie Redfern,

Keeping Balance by Leslie Morgan,

Horizons-Squall by Helen Keenan,

Illusion by Ineke van Unen-Wingelaar,

You quilters certainly get around! I like the Horizons one best but they are all so imaginative. FC's fpu will certainly be interested in these pics. Great, thank you.

Jill from EK

Rustyko is my favourite, glorious palette, fine execution. Illusion and Red Tree are too busy for me, although I can admire the paw-work. (I just put that in in case Jill thought it was my fpu writing this). Horizons - working with strips is very effecive, but think the camera hasn't been quite kind to it. WLTSM!

Flying Cat from stitching&sewing

Gorgeous quilts. My fave would have to be Illusion - all that purple and blue! I didn't make it to FOQ this year but am definitely going to Knitting & Stitching.

Ellie from just over here

The photo of Horizons does not show it to best effect as it is stripe piecing, each new colour is a new fabric and there are lots of types of fabric, cottons, chiffons, silks, the raw edges were left adding to the texture and depth,

Rustyko is my fav too, I think partly because it was about rust without using the current craze for rusting fabric, there were lots of textured threads couched (I think) down, your right about the quality of the photos they are not very good, I am going to blame the lighting and my cameras flash,

Hello Ellie, I love blues and purples too but what I really love about Illusion is the way Ineke has used so many different fabrics including small pieces of knitting, I just love texture, enjoy K&S,
