that sample quilt

I thought I had better post something textiley as I haven’t for so long, I have finally finished all the blocks for my very first (and probably last) sample quilt, twelve blocks in all, digital cameras are great for laying out the blocks in different arrangements taking a photo of each then viewing them all and deciding on the best, no need to number the blocks to remember where they go, so here’s a photo of all the blocks,

I finally got into the garden today, great (except for the flies ugh!) but I managed to cut the hedge and deadhead a lot of the plants that had finished flowering and when I went into the shed I had a great surprise, last year I decided to plant an avocado stone, nothing seemed to have happened but I just left it as it was not in the way and look……

I am so chuffed, yes I know it is no great thing,

Nice to hear from you again, IT. Why is this your "last" sample quilt? FWIW, I like best the middle square on row 2 and the fan-shaped one at the bottom. And your avocado plant is amazing, I've never had much success with the stones. Who knows, avocados from Lewis??

nice to see you back, i did post a comment on the harris tweed quilt, i really wish i had my camera that day! I'm beginning to seriously consider digging out my quilting box from under the spare bed and having another go.

Oooooo...have we got Flying Geese, Log Cabin, Tumbling Blocks, that's not an Ohio Star is it? and and ....

Hello Jill, I have for a long time wanted to make a sample quilt but I have no desire to make more, it's done and I enjoyed making it but now I move on, the Grandmother's Fan block is one of my favourites too, The avocado grew despite neglect, perhaps it was trying to attract my attention, it succeeded ;o)

Love seeing all of those charming blocks together at last! Beautiful! And I think the avocado plant is very impressive...

Oh Jas you have got to start stitching again, just get some fabric and thread and play around with it, do whatever you enjoy, are you on lewis? Or were you visiting? because I was told the quilt will be there all summer,

Yes fc log cabin and tumbling blocks, the one that looks like flying geese which is how I think of it, is called a dutchman's puzzle when done in a round like this (why a Dutchman I don't know) and the star is a freeform star as I am not into tedious perfect points,

Thanks Conni,

I was in Harris at the beginning of July, visiting the outlaws, showing just how good (!) a job I'm making of bringing up their grandson...was up in Stornoway and saw the quilt. I've since discovered a xstitch project I started several years ago (all cats just to make tws shudder) and have decided to finish it.

Jas I am pleased to hear you are finishing The Cat project, as a cat lover I am purrrrring with delightÂ…
