Do you know if this is an all-Ireland organisation, or are these stunning pieces from either the North or South? I have a friend who is very involved with quilting in the North.

Oh wow. These are great. The Japanese one is gorgeous and must have been really interesting to make apart from looking spectacular. In the Remember quilt, how is the text part done? Is it copied on to fabric from paper?

Eef Cee follow the link to the Irish Patchwork Society and ask them or send the web address to your friend so they can ask, the leaflet I picked up included joining and seems to be open internationally, it didn't have the website but I did a search and it is the same society because the postal address is the same, so does your friend have a blog or website where we can see her work please? quilters like to look at quilts,

Jill, the text part of Remember is news paper, this quilt has a lot of recycling in and I wish I had made more detailed notes, I have not yet done a search to see if Caroline has a website, the border is black plastic, there is lots of layering then cut and burn back,

Recycling is good, great to see it incorporated in a quilt. Cut and burn back? Sounds dangerous! Thanks for explaining, I'm not a creative person but I always like to know how things are made!

Until I discovered your blogs I never realized how quilts and quilt making could have so many facets, and how they can require not only manual dexterity but also significant intellect and imagination. Thanks, IT.

She doesn't even have an internet connection.....but thanks anyway. She teaches part-time at a college in Ulster.

Flying Cat ask one of your pu's to write down the address and phone number from the website and either send it by snail mail or phone her, the society would welcome new members, the members I met were very friendly welcoming people, there is liff without the internet and computers!!!!!

mjc, I am pleased you now know there is Art in quilt making, I think your side of the pond has more trouble with this than my side, I repeatedly read on the QuiltArt list the thread 'how to educate people that quilts can be Art' there was one again recently, the SAQA (studio art quilts association) is to promote Art Quilts (primarily in the USA), I think the reason more people over here understand this is because of the history of Art and Decorative Textiles in the form of weaving, woven tapestry, canvas work and embroidery plus textiles to decorate walls have been used for hundreds of years in Europe,

Thank you for showing my quilt 'Remember'. I don't have a website yet but I will now look at setting one up. The border is actually newspaper bondawebbed to felt and then painted with acrylic paint. The burning is very easy with a heat gun but you do need a mask!
