Super fast at last

Yup. I type this on broadband. Thanks to Duncan and John on Tiree and everybody else, and it was easy. In fact the instructions were so basic I could probably have followed them (but I wimped out). So now there are pics on the blog, instead of huge gaps between the writing. John from Tiree came back today so there must be more people signing up.

There was the big meeting last night with 52 members of the public. Add in the directors, all the junior school kids, and the kids away at Oban High (although I still don't understand why they were included in the attendance), and you get a very impressive turnout. And it seems like it was a positive meeting and therefore 'a good thing'. Which is almost unheard of.

Seriously, this is the start of the 'rest of the Initiative on the Edge', and although it has mainly involved Coll residents so far it (hopefully) will make a positive difference to the part-time summer swallows as well. So keep in touch, stay informed and make sure your views are heard too. End of party political broadcast.

My 'persuasive' expert wishes me to expand on his qualities, so I would like to add he has charm, looks, is an excellent listener and likes mozzarella. However the crisis must have passed as he was no longer being persuasive.

I'm glad your all sorted out Nic, just remember if you've got a Sky digibox and still have the telephone line for it plugged in that you will need a filter for it as well. Speaking to the Openreach guys, they say that this is a very common problem when they are called out to broadband faults. It can be a dear one as well as you would get a call -out charge for it! The other thing is don't have more than 4 filters plugged in on one telephone line as odd things can start happening as well. I remember when I first set up my broadband, I did the 成人快手r Simpson bit "phone works, internet works, phone works, internet works" I got fair carried away. I use a webcam on msn to talk to various friends & family, the difference between dial-up and broadband is like night and day, it's brilliant. I'm curious about whether you might now have a bit more immigration into Coll, and other islands for that matter, as there are a heck of lot of small businesses about these days that only need good internet connections to operate. Mind if you want to check your connection speed go to www.internetfrog.com and click on speed test(obviously!) cheers, Duncan

Duncan from Livingston

Hi Duncan BT sent extra filters so the digibox is OK, he can watch downhill skiing while I do serious Ebay surfing. We have 3 people (at least) using the net to enable them to work here. Immigrants are a bit difficult unless they want to live in a tent - Coll suffers the Highland disease of no water supply and extra more red tape for private supplies. Still, I'm open to offers - any work out there I can do here?

We've an initiative at the edge meeting this week and may need to use your headcount system. We've not been seen to deliver a lot since getting recognition and what we have has n't been seen as a success, for example the direct ferry study came back with a negative answer. Some expectations were may be that things would just happen but it is n't like that. We were a bit a head of you getting broadband and it did n't just plug in and play but it great now that it's running properly.
