Ebay success

I’ve just had an unexpected trip to the big land to the east. A vague need (desire?) for a 4x4 has been niggling in the background for several weeks but I finally got tired of just looking at Ebay, so in went the bid and we disappeared to the pub while the geeks sit with stop watches and put in last minute bids. Four hours after the auction closed we discovered we were the new owners of a 15 year old Daihatsu. The car was handily located in Edinburgh, handy because half of Coll was going there for the rugby, so a choice of lifts! I stayed with a friend I hadn’t seen in longer than a very long time and almost got to play with the four wheel drive in the snow. BUT the M8 was crawling along, it took 2 hours to get from Edinburgh to the edge of Glasgow. And by then the snow was gone.
I don’t understand mainlanders. They wonder how we cope if the ferry misses in extreme weather, and then accept that disruption over an inch of snow. Bonkers! Anyway, I’m very pleased with the car but if I ever buy another I am not going to fill the back with dirty wet coal and then try to sleep on the front seats, it is too narrow, even for vertically challenged people like me. I’ve never wished to be shorter before in my life!

You could have bought a landrover on ebay that was being sold as part of the pooltogether fundraiser for the Mull swimming pool. Never mind, it would have cost more to transport from Mull to Oban than it cost in fuel driving it from Edinburgh. I hope you enjoy your latest machine. Its nice to think of one 4x4 being released into the wild – released at last from the school run in Edinburgh to live its new life on Tiree - carrying coal etc and doing proper 4x4 things. . . Re the pooltogether thing – plug plug - there has been an amazing range of bits and pieces sold already to raise money for the pool. Have a look – search for pooltogether to see the goodies which are still available or try this url . . . . . . . . . . . . . http://search.ebay.co.uk/search/search.dll?cgiurl=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay.co.uk%2Fws%2F&fkr=1&from=R8&satitle=pooltogether&category0=

pondhead from Mull

I had to be very firm on the 'no landrover' front. We have two already. One officially dead, and one 'resting'. The last gale blew the door off. If it starts and we take it to the beach it is 50-50 whether it will start again and let us come back. (I need to phone a friend rather too often) The dead one is an official egg laying place for the hens, some in the front and some in the back. To be fair to the Daihatsu it had been living in the borders and is a Yorkshire exile.
