Production Safety Guide (PSG)

The Guidelines collated in the PSG cover those activities or situations which are routinely encountered by those working in TV productions.

These Guidelines cover safety, security, health and environmental risks and give guidance on how these risks can be reduced to an acceptable level. However, users are reminded that this information is generic in nature and the risks encountered may vary with the particular situation or set of circumstances involved - any course of action should always be based on a sound and thorough assessment of safety risk.

If you are travelling to a hostile environment or undertaking activities in the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ High Risk Guide e.g. covert filming, filming riots, etc., then you must contact the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ High Risk team.

Getting Started

The PSG is simply a collation of those of our safety, security, health and environmental Guidelines which are likely to be of most use to TV productions. Those wishing to explore our other Guidelines should consult our A-Z list of ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Safety Guidelines.

Each of our Safety Guidelines contain:

  • Title
  • Description - Scope of the topic/activity/location
  • What can go Wrong/Hazards? - In order of significance
  • Legal / ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Requirements - Legal requirements (usually UK) and ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ requirements that are mandatory
  • Control Measures - List of controls for all the listed hazards; sometimes with sub-headings such as planning, location, documentation or similar
  • Division Specific Issues - Any specific risks or controls unique to a specific division or programme department
  • Did you know / FAQs - Interesting facts and frequently asked questions about the topic
