An invention from the Maker Faire
Whether you've embraced technology willingly, or you鈥檙e slowly learning the delights of the digital world, this series will have something for you.听Simon Cox听finds out how modern technology touches our lives.
Maker Faire
Simon is听in Newcastle for听the UK's first Maker Faire - celebrating the听spirit of digital DIY.听 He meets stall holders whose inventions include a gadget to turn TVs off听in public places, a machine which blows bubbles whenever its name is mentioned on Twitter, and a device which monitors the electricity consumption of individual devices in the home.

Green IT
Simon is joined in studio by Tom Standage from The Economist and James Murray from news website BusinessGreen, to discuss what can be done to reduce the IT industry's carbon footprint, and to ask whether听expertise from the digital world could be what's needed to kick start a revolution in clean technology.

Open source in the real world
Back at the Maker Faire, Simon meets Vinay Gupta, who has used the principles behind open source software - of collaboration and sharing - to create something physical: a foldable building which he hopes could be useful for disaster relief and refugee housing.听 And Simon asks whether open source ideals will become more common as听a way to find answers to real world problems.
