Simon has just won a听Glenfiddich Award for an edition of The Food Programme he presented about the lunchbox delivery system in Bombay. Listen again to the programme.

After studying Hotel Management in Somerset, a career in over-gilded hotels in both London and Geneva followed for Simon.

Once he'd got them out of his system, Simon then joined Michelin as a guide inspector in the mid-1980's before turning freelance. This involved both becoming a restaurant critic for Vogue - which he did for over 4 years - as well as commencing life as a contributor to The Food Programme, something he has done ever since as both reporter and occasional presenter.

In the intervening years, highlights have included fronting editions of the programme from Atlanta, Beirut and Calcutta as well as covering subjects as diverse as Asian prawn farming through to the eating of horse meat. Simon also covers food issues for You & Yours and Woman's Hour and has also presented a number of other series for Radio 4 - Parkes & Gardens, Those Caf茅 Days and Being American (produced by his longtime friend and collaborator, Sheila Dillon).

Away from radio, Simon is well-known in the West Country as one of the faces behind the Taste Of The West pub food competition on Carlton Westcountry Television. He's also currently researching a book on the food of Calcutta, a city he has lived in and returns to regularly.

Of The Food Programme, Simon says "I suppose it is my spiritual home: it's the only programme in Britain to treat food - and the society that both produces and consumes it - seriously".
