Sheila Dillon heads north to the Ardtornish estate on Morvern, a peninsula on the West Coast of Scotland, for a gathering of Slow Food enthusiasts to find out if the Slow Food ideals of eating locally and traditionally, dreamt up in the softer climes of Italy and seized on by gastronomes all over the world, can really work to regenerate food production in the Highlands.
At Ardtornish she talks to fellow guest Callum Buchanan and her hosts Hugh Raven and his wife Jane Stuart-Smith.
The next morning Sheila goes for a walk around the Ardtornish estate with Hugh Raven, Bill and Sukie Barber, and Director of The Soil Association, Patrick Holden. They meet hen keeper Norrie Maclaren.
In the afternoon local archaeologist Jennie Robertson takes Sheila to the ruined crofting village of Inniemore which was de-populated during the clearances of the 19th Century. Sheila meets Katie MacCuish and Charles 'Chubby' Ives who remember the crofting way of life on Morvern.
In the evening Sheila goes to the The White House restaurant in Lochaline, where she talks to chef Sukie Barber. The next morning Sheila visits the village shop and its owner Sarah Jones. Later she discusses the prospects of these Highland businesses with Andy Lane, Managing Director of the The Loch Fyne Oyster company.
Then Sheila attends a cheese tasting run by Pam and Nick Rodway of Wester Lawrenceton Farm in Morayshire and Jeff and Chris Reade of Mull, respectively finalists and winners of 成人快手 Radio 4 Food and Farming Awards.听
