  • 10. The selection criteria and process will comprise three different phases.

Phase 1: Online submission of the application form and link to video.
Following submission of the applications in accordance with paragraph 4, a Radio 1 production team judging panel will shortlist as many of the most outstanding entries as they consider sufficient (in their absolute discretion) to advance to phase 2. Entries will be judged on acting and singing ability, appropriateness for the part of Scott Mills and potential audience appeal. Reasons for wanting to play the part of Scott Mills as given in the video will also be taken into consideration as part of the selection process. A representative of Radio 1 may, at the judging panel's discretion, phone any applicant back and ask a series of questions to aid with the selection process. The judging panel’s decision on who advances to phase 2 is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

Following a review of the applications and any follow-up phone calls deemed necessary, the judging panel will shortlist those applicants who will advance to phase 2. Shortlisted applicants will be contacted by the Radio 1 Production team (on the telephone number provided in the application form) and invited to come to London or Manchester for phase 2. Pre-selected applicants will be notified within five (5) calendar days from the closing date for entries. Those applicants who are not shortlisted will not be contacted any further.

Phase 2: Casting director audition day
At phase 2, the pre-selected applicants will go through a casting process to be held in London or Manchester on 11th or 12th July 2009. Please note this could be a long day and the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ advises you to take something to eat and drink with you. Toilet facilities will be available, but we are unable to provide childcare facilities. Unfortunately the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ is currently unable to offer any alternative dates or venues but does reserve the right to change such dates or venues at its discretion. You are advised to check the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ website for any information updates. At this stage the judging criteria will include the applicant’s involvement in auditions on the day and their suitability for the role. Activities may include vocal and physical warm-up games, choreography and further demonstrations of the applicant’s acting and singing ability. Applicants may be filmed / recorded during the audition process (including interviews) and such recordings may be featured as part of this competition on Radio 1 or the Radio 1 website. At this stage of the competition, the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ is unable to offer any travel or accommodation expenses or compensation for loss of earnings, should you decide to take time off work to attend phase 2. The judging panel at phase 2 will consist of at least one member of the Radio 1 production team and a professional working on the musical. Three (3) applicants will be selected to go through to Phase 3. The judging panel’s decision is final. The three successfully selected applicants will be notified by phone within 2-3 calendar days from their phase 2 audition.

    Phase 3: Finals
On entering phase 3 and between the dates 14th – 16th July 2009, the final three will be required to be interviewed on the Scott Mills Show in London individually. One applicant will be interviewed per day. They will be asked about why they want to be chosen to play the part and may be asked to sing and / or act.
