The Audition Process

The Search For A Scott will take place over three phases.Ìý Please make sure you read this page fully before apply to be Scott, because you must be available for all three phases.

Are you eligible to play Scott?

It's very important you read this bit before going to the effort of applying to be Scott. These are the criteria to make you eligible to apply.

* The competition is only open to men aged 18 years and over

* The competition is only open to UK residents who are legally entitled to work in the UK

* You must be available for auditions in London or Manchester, on 11/12th July 2009

* You must be available for 3 weeks for rehearsal and performance of the musical, from 27th July to 14th August 2009.

If you meet these criteria, then you can go ahead, make your audition video, and apply!

Phase 1 - Online selection
closes at 7pm on 3rd July


In phase 1 you must make an audition video, and then fill in theÌý on the website.

Every application must include a link to an audition video.

The video must be no more than 2 minutes in length, and must contain three things -

1. You must tell us why you would be best person to play Scott in Scott Mills The Musical

2.ÌýÌýYou must demonstrate your acting skills (you can choose your way of doing this - either on your own or with friends)

3.ÌýÌýYou must sing a song of your choice, without any backing music or instruments (acapella)

You must upload your video to a video hosting site of your choice - such as YouTube or Yahoo Video. We must be able to view this video easily, so don't use a site that requires us to become a member or install custom software.

You must then fill in the online application form, which includes a place for you to paste the web address of your video. Applications will not be accepted by post or email.

Phase 2 - Auditions
London, 11th-12th July


Phase 2 which will take place in London and Manchester. Successful Phase 1 applicants will be notified by phone.

You must be available between 10am and 7pm on July 11th / July 12th to be eligible for the Phase 2 of the competition.

It's your chance to impress out casting directors (which shall include at least one member of the Radio 1 production team and a professional working on the musical).

Activities will include further demonstration of the applicant's acting and singing ability as well as an interview as to why you want the part.

We will select three people to advance to Phase 3 and take part in a public text vote to decide who will play Scott in the musical.

This is your first opportunity to impress and you will be judged by our panel.

If you’re successfully selected and make it through Phase 2, you will be one of the lucky 3 people selected for the next stage of the search and you will be notified by phone.

Phase 3 - On-air week, and public text vote
London, 14th-17th July


On entering Phase 3, the 3 potential ‘Scotts’ will be interviewed separately on Scott Mills’ Radio show in London. One candidate will be interviewed per day.

Any further travel expenses will be met for the final three entrants (e.g. petrol costs or economy travel on public transport).

On Fri 17th July Ìýthere will then be a public text vote on Scott’s show for the audience to decide who will play Scott in Scott Mills The Musical.

The winner will then spend 2 weeks in London rehearsing for the musical.

Following rehearsals in London, the winner will spend one week in Edinburgh and will perform the musical over three nights.

The winner will be paid for rehearsals and performance of the musical in accordance with standard ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ rates.Ìý We will provide accomodation for rehearsal and performance weeks.
