Aidan Mulholland
Belfast born guitarist
Belfast-born Aidan Mulholland learnt violin and played in the school orchestra when he was only 11 but he didn鈥檛 enjoy the rigid classical lessons. He moved on to Spanish classical guitar later, when studying engineering at Edinburgh University.
After he graduated, he moved to London to work as an engineer for British Telecom. Driven by his love for music, just one year later he quit his job and returned to Belfast where he took up traditional fiddle lessons with the great Cavan fiddler Sean Maguire.
Sometime later, he booked himself in a two-week course of Flamenco guitar in Cordoba. He fell in love with Flamenco and Spanish lifestyle and has been playing the guitar ever since. With percussionist Vicente Isadora he found a band called The Samsonelles in 1990. They have teamed up with a wide range of musicians from different backgrounds and styles and played in different venues in Belfast and all around the UK and Ireland.
He plays a Milonga, a colourful variation of Flamenco evolving from the style of Argentinean folk song and Tango.
