James is a bass player from the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire. His first experiences of jazz came on electric bass, playing with his friends at school and in his county youth jazz orchestra. In 2015, James took up the double bass and joined the jazz course at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. He is currently in his fourth and final year, studying with Arnie Somogyi and Mark Hodgson.
In January 2018, James began playing with the new Clark Tracey Quintet, alongside former 成人快手 Young Jazz Musician finalists Sean Payne, Alex Ridout and Elliot Sansom. They have just released their debut recording No Doubt.
