Chopra was a member of the Triton military rescue team sent to Le Verrier station in orbit of Neptune to investigate the disappearance of its crew. Unlike his colleagues, Chopra was vehemently anti-Morpheus, a process wired into sleep pods that was widely used to prevent the need for a humanoid to sleep and developed by Gagan Rassmussen. Chopra believed that the Morpheus technology gave too much power to corporations over their workforces and took away the right to natural sleep. As a result, he was nicknamed a ‘Rip’ by his team, ‘Rip Van Winkle’ being the name given to a group who boycotted the use of Morpheus pods on Neptune’s moon, Triton. With the exposure of the dangerous side effects of using the Morpheus pods over the long term in the form of the Sandmen that consumed the crew of Le Verrier station, Chopra felt in some way vindicated for his hostility to the technology.
Colonising our sleep! Is nothing sacred?
Young and attractive, Chopra was the object of affection for 474, although Chopra found the artificially grown Grunt infuriating and largely thought of it as expendable. However, his attitude towards 474 was dramatically altered, when the Grunt sacrificed its life in a dangerous situation on the station to save his. However, this was not enough to prevent Chopra from meeting his end at the hands of the Sandmen and according to all visual records available, no trace of this conscript has ever been found.
