Peter Oborne: There should be an inquiry at Daily Telegraph
Former Daily Telegraph chief political commentator, Peter Oborne, has called for an inquiry into the absence of negative HSBC coverage.
The former Daily Telegraph chief political commentator Peter Oborne has called for an inquiry into "the connections between the advertising and the editorial departments鈥, after accusing the paper of blocking him writing about HSBC tax evasion.
He said he 鈥済ave up in despair in the end鈥 after trying to get stories into the paper regarding HSBC and being constantly stopped.
After carrying out thorough research he says he 鈥渄iscovered there was part of a pattern鈥 with negative stories regarding HSBC in the paper, after Telegraph coverage of the HSBC Swiss banking arm was minimal.
Mr Oborne was disappointed to leave his post, saying he had "the best job in journalism" but was "too cross" at the Telegraph's lack of coverage of HSBC.
The Daily Telegraph responded, saying "the distinction between advertising and our award-winning editorial operation has always been fundamental to our business. We utterly refute any allegation to the contrary."
