‘It gives me a purpose’
Sir Chris Hoy was diagnosed with terminal Prostate Cancer at the age of 47.
He told 5 Live’s Jeanette Kwakye why it is so important for men to get themselves checked as early as possible.
‘One in eight men will get prostate Cancer at some stage in their life. But I think the perception is that it’s an old man’s disease. But it can start early’.
The cycling legend also explained why a key motivator for him has been the rise in men including one of his close friends who are now getting checked and diagnosed early enough to be treated because of the awareness he’s raised of Prostate Cancer.
‘It pushes me on and it gives me a purpose. It makes you realise that you’re not alone, it makes you realise that you can make a difference. Its wonderful to see that there’s positivity in this really difficult situation’.
