
Vet shortages, farmers fight 'anti-red meat agenda' and salad pickers
Vets go back on list of occupations facing shortages. Salad farmers say they still struggle to find pickers. Scottish meat industry fights what it sees as 'anti-red meat agenda'.
Government advisors on migration have analysed the labour market and vets are back on the shortage occupation list. The British Veterinary Association says it's delighted with the Migration Advisory Committee report and hopes recruiting more overseas vets can help plug industry shortages.
Salad pickers are still in short supply though, according to a lettuce grower in Lancashire. We visit his farm as part of salad week.
Red meat producers fight back - Quality Meat Scotland. which promotes Scottish pork, beef and lamb, believes there's been an anti-red meat agenda. It's launching a campaign called 'Meat with Integrity' which aims to protect and promote the Scottish meat industry.
