
New marine conservation zones, Badger baiting, Watercress
Defra expands 'blue belt' around coast, but marine biologists say conservation zones are useless if fishing is still allowed. Badger baiting is still a serious problem says RSPCA.
DEFRA is expanding conservation areas around the UK coast. There are already 50 of them, now it's creating 41 new zones, eight times the size of London. The Government says it will protect habitats and species but a professor of marine biology says they won't work unless fishing boats are banned from them.
The National Wildlife Crime Unit has a new man in charge of badger persecution. Police and the RSPCA want to increase awareness of badger baiting, they say it's still a serious problem.
