Including Crucial Vinyl from Paul Simon

Don's selections cross time, space and genre, plus his Crucial Vinyl is Paul Simon's 1986 release Graceland.

The Don's selections cross time, space and genre and include another piece of Crucial Vinyl from his album collection.

Don explains why Graceland, Paul Simon's 1986 release, means so much, and he selects three tracks from it.

Don says, "Inspired by a bootleg cassette of South African township music and a trip to South Africa,
this album was a mix of sounds Paul discovered there, combined with his pop sensibility and
mastery of lyrics. Recording and collaborating with South African and American musicians,
he got a lot of grief for seemingly breaking the cultural boycott, and was even accused of
'stealing' African music - ridiculous. Not only was this a fantastic record, but it opened South
African music to a whole new audience, and, as far as accusations of stealing African music,
well, last time I checked, there was still plenty there...".
