Culture Clash Radio and Crucial Vinyl from Beastie Boys

Don's selections cross time, space and genre, plus his Crucial Vinyl is Beastie Boys' 1986 debut Licensed to Ill.

The Don's selections clash cultures and include three tracks from this week's Crucial Vinyl, Licensed to Ill by the Beastie Boys, released in 1986.

Don days, "Y'know the Beastie Boys started life as a hard-core punk band and went on to be the first rap outfit to top the Billboard charts with this, their debut album. They mastered the three crucial ingredients of rap: tone, content and delivery - all of which were nothing without slamming beats, and they had plenty of those. Along with some serious bass, samples and loops to give it their particular flavour, this was a serious statement of intent, with rhymes that were political, surreal and funny as hell - all delivered with a punk attitude.".
