7 movies that spawned from iconic TV shows

Is there going to be a Downton Abbey film?
This rumour has been doing the rounds for quite some time.
We're always hearing rumours about our favourite TV shows being turned into movies - how many times have you heard it about Friends, for example? And one of the most talked-about potential movie adaptations of the moment is Downton Abbey - but it doesn't look like it'll happen anytime soon.
Speaking at the Empire Awards, Joanne Froggatt - who played Anna in Downton - said, "We've talked about it, everyone's very keen to do it, we'd all love to do it. But unfortunately it's a massive undertaking trying to get 25 of us - or however many of us there are - together at the same time, when we're out of contract and we're all doing different jobs. To try and align 25 people's schedules is kind of impossible."
So that's that then. While you continue to mourn the loss of Downton, check out these TV shows that did spawn some pretty great movies.
Baywatch

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson & Kevin Hart chat to 成人快手 Radio 1's Greg James
Greg interviewed Kevin Hart and 'The Rock' ahead of their new movie Central Intelligence.
Summer 2017 will see The Rock don The Hoff’s famous red shorts, and take on the role of hunky lifeguard Mitch Buchannon, in the big screen version of Baywatch. Once everyone’s Saturday evening guilty pleasure TV show, also starring Pamela Anderson and Carmen Electra, Baywatch the movie will hopefully be every bit as enjoyable. Did we mention Zac Efron’s in it?
Sex And The City
Back in December the internet was buzzing with chat of a third Sex And The City movie being confirmed, though we haven’t heard anything since, so our hopes are fading slightly. That being said, while the first movie spin-off of Sarah Jessica Parker’s hit TV show was fun, the second was somewhat questionable… Maybe we’re best left with fond memories of Carrie and co?
Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie

Jennifer and Joanna鈥檚 Ab Fab Advice Line
Who鈥檚 up for an Ab Fab A Level?
One of the most fun cinema frolics of last year, Ab Fab finally hit the big screen after years of fans demanding more Patsy and Edina, with Jennifer Saunders eventually bowing to the pressure. The result was lots of in-jokes for long-time fans of the TV series, plenty of lols at the ladies trying to handle 21st century life and more celeb cameos than you can shake a stick at.
The Brady Bunch Movie
(Warning: third party content may contain adverts)
Here’s the story, of a lovely lady… You’re probably too young to remember The Brady Bunch TV series, which aired in the 70s, but thankfully it spawned 1995’s The Brady Bunch Movie, A Very Brady Sequel and The Brady Bunch In The White House. Who could forget middle child Jan’s cries of “Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!” and that time Marcia and Greg sort of fancied each other?
Miami Vice

Colin Farrell talks to Edith Bowman
Colin Farrell talks to Edith Bowman about his new film London Boulevard.
Another show that transcended decades when the 80s series became a movie in 2006. Starring Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell as Tubbs and Crockett, the film topped the US box office in its opening weekend and grossed $164million worldwide.
Starsky & Hutch
From the 70s TV show came the 2004 crime comedy starring Ben Stiller (Starsky) and Owen Wilson (Hutch). Of course, the best bit wasn’t the lads playing undercover cops in crazy retro outfits, rather playing underworld boss Huggy Bear. Dogg, Bear, it’s all the same really.
Charlie鈥檚 Angels
The massive 2000 blockbuster, starring Cameron Diaz, Lucy Liu and Drew Barrymore, spawned from the 70s TV show of the same name. Then came the sequel, Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, and now there's another reboot on the way directed by Pitch Perfect's Elizabeth Banks. Here's hoping it's got a killer soundtrack like the last one - how do you top Destiny's Child's Independent Women?
