Veil by Basanta Kumar Kar

Eyes seduce, smile procreates

foot steps echo, solitude reverberates

an Aryan-tribal offspring, I am the queen

speak truth, spread wings

the magic spell outsmarts.

Mad lust, unusual heat

men powerful, empire built by sleaze

drawn like moths to a flame

my HIV hides beneath

the present only rules.

More outlets, positioned, packed and branded

teenage, item girl, blue blood

fragrance and colour,

knitted and preserved

all in one; new products in demand

I change role, livelihood restored

Now and then,

rescue and rehab naïve damsels

a self content, sin expiates

adapt to people speak, act, think different

dress the window

cope with the surge silent

this world, complex and strange.

The infections escalate

children look for the father

I craft the nest, birds desert

the words of care, security lifelong

I haunt for days bygone

I get swayed

the body and beauty disposed

heart looks to spark off

the past haunts, future kills

drugs invigorate

I go to bed.

(This is the story of Mrs.Anita (name changed) a 24 year old sex worker at Korba, Chhattisgarh ( India ). She is having two children and is HIV positive).
