Design ideas for Piccadilly Place |
The
site at Piccadilly Place is divided into two by the Metrolink track:
The
northern area comprises One Piccadilly Place, which would be a 285
bed hotel and Two Piccadilly Place, which is a c.55,000 sq ft office
building.
The
southern site comprises Three to Six Piccadilly Place, totalling
c.300,000 sq ft of offices and Seven Piccadilly Place, which is
a 117 unit apartment block.
The
main pedestrian connection into Piccadilly Place will be a stunning
new bridge spanning London Road from Piccadilly Station. This bridge
will take pedestrians into the heart of the site and provide further
access into the City Centre along Aytoun Street and Portland Street.
Developers
Argent have been working with Manchester City Council and GMPTE,
who are the joint landowners.
The
work has been divided into two phases:

Phase
1
Piccadilly
Place will comprise the whole of the northern site (the hotel, Two
Piccadilly Place, the bridge and the new piazza) and the whole of
the car park over the southern site up to podium level.
Phase
2
In
October 2003, Argent commissioned a design ideas competition to
choose individual architects for the office buildings in the south.
One of the key aspects which the architects were asked to address
was the role which the site plays as a gateway to Manchester for
passengers arriving by public transport as well as by car, and for
national and international arrivals.
The
winning masterplan will be revealed in May.
