The Hound of Ulster |
|
Brave youngster, fathered by a sky god, chokes dog with ball, changes his name and single handedly faces invading army in war over prize bull. The Irish can tell a good yarn can`t they? 1 Dermot Rafferty from From Newry, now live in Manchester - 3 December 2003 ""and became the hound of Culain – CuCuhulain" - he became the hound of Ulster, the Irish word for Ulster is Uladh, but in the genetive case Uladh changes to Ulainn, so the Hound of Ulster translates into Irish as Cu h-ulainn. "Gae Bolga, also known as the “Bellows Spear”" - my understanding was that the spear was called the gae bolg as in stomach/belly spear, it was called this as that was the best place to use it. "
