Grey mould Plants affected: Greenhouse plants.
Symptoms: Fluffy grey patches on dead or dying leaves, flowers and fruits, such as strawberries. In dull, damp weather, small, round translucent spots appear on tomatoes.
Prevention/Control: Common in winter in humid greenhouses, so ventilate to ensure good air circulation. Remove affected leaves. Spray with a suitable fungicide, such as one containing carbendazim.
|
| Brown rot Plants affected: Fruit including plums, apples, pears and crab apples.
Symptoms: The whole fruit rapidly turns brown with concentric rings of raised white spots.
|
Prevention/Control: Pick off infected fruits and destroy. They must be burned or put in the dustbin. Never put diseased plants in the compost heap because this may spread disease.
|
Coral spot Plants affected: Woody plants.
Symptoms: Raised, coral-red pustules on dead or dying wood.
Prevention/Control: Remove and destroy infected wood.
