He should have been booked at least 2 times against France for diving! Would you see Ronaldhino do that?

Well, I don't know about "funny", but there is www.ihateronaldo.com which is campaigning for people to vote for Valencia instead (in the sidebar on the left). It's a little over the top, in my opinion.

Ronaldo is a despicable wee tyke and a disgrace to the game. And that's not just from an England perspective either - witness the booing he received from the French last night.

The tragedy is that he's incredibly talented and, when not throwing himself to the ground, delicious to watch. It's his own fault though that his reputation is now preceding him, and that he's increasingly known not for silky skills but for being a con artist.

Young Player of the Tournament? Do me a favour. All those who love the beautiful game and the spirit in which it should be played should vote for anyone else to win - and if that means some middleweight Ecuadorian, so be it.

It's a pretty typical English reaction to be honest.

Aside from being a huge waste of time, the vote has been rigged by people who couldn't pick Luis Valencia out if he was surrounded by 10 albinos.

Everyone who voted against him must be really proud, does this make up for England not being able to beat Portugal in the World Cup? I don't think so. . . . and people wonder why other countries have such a stereo-typical view of English football fans.

No one can doubt Ronaldo as had the biggest impact on the world cup as a young player, maybe even out of all the players, but, as a manchester united supporter,if we sell him, i wont be losing any sleep.

The TSG then decide on the winner from these 6 which is announced tomorrow.

To me, when Ronaldo doesn't do the play acting stuff he is becoming a very good player. If he stops all the rubbish he could be a great player. Fortunatley the decision is made by a FIFA technical panel who will look at all aspects of play.

Like a Zidane, a more dignifed player you'll be hard pushed to see.

I really enjoy watching Ronaldo play, and I don't think he dives half as much as people say. However, he definetely looks for free kicks by dribbling round someone at the last second so they take him out, and he does go down very easily.

It's a shame realyl because he could be so much better than he is now. If he had the determination to get past defenders and stay on his feet he'd be alot more dangerous for club and country.

As for his actions in the England match against Rooney. It's fair to say by the head butt (or whatever it was) before the game and the wink after Rooney got sent off that it was part of their game plan. Disgraceful.

Still, lets look towards the final and hope that the Italians beat the most boreing team (excluding England of course!) in the competition.

Some people really tend to forget what actually caused Ronaldo麓s reaction.

Nothing, really nothing that the young man did is worth HATE. Please remember, at the end of the day it is only a game where 22 men are chasing a ball....

As for "something funny" going on - it's more petty and bitter than it is funny. Sounds familiar - the same "news" papers were the ones that printed the home contact details of a referee who dared to disallow a perfectly executed foul as Sol Campbell scored a header against.... ummmmm.... oh yeah - Portugal.

Also funny to see Giddy label Ronaldo in with Maradona - think that further shows the pettyness of the hatred against Ronaldo.

Its amazing that the one country, who more than any other, owed its sole world Cup triumph to refereeing errors should be the one to hold forth and lecture the rest of us on the evils of cheating and refereeing incompetence.

Can anybody imagine the reaction if England lost a world cup final to Argentina by a goal that did not cross the line, that never was - the sheer bedlam and hysteria that would explode around our heads. In the 1966 Quarter final between Argentina and England, Argentina had to play with 10 men because the Referee sent off the Argentine captain Rattin (in a match where English fouls doubled Argentine ones) because he ' did not like the look on his face' and because Rattin was allegedly insulting a referee who later on admitted to not understanding a word of Spanish.

Imagine the English reaction if Beckham had been sent off for abusing, in English, a referee who later admitted to not speaking or understanding a word of it.

The English are the spoilt, petulant and inadequate children of international football. Not once in 40 years of mediocrity have they ever admitted to loosing a tournament game because they played a better side, not once have they ever had the grace to congratulate their conquerors, there is always an excuse, always a whinge, always a hate figure to divert attention from their lack of any real ability to play good football. English football is a joke. The English now hate the Portuguese not because of their so called antics, but because the Iberians who they would rather patronise have cleaned the floor with them three times now in the last 6 years, Euro 2000, Euro 2004 and now this world cup - what a record. Portugal have produced Figo, a former world player of the year, respected throughout the game who has led his country, a small modest south European nation to the last 4 of at least 3 competitions, England have produced David Beckham, better known for his hair not playing style, who has led his country, one of the richest in the world, from one underachievement to the other.

Portugal have Ronaldo, a a fine winger with pace, trickery and above all courage, England have Rooney, a one trick pony (all he ever does is try and shoot from outside the box or barge his way through it) overrated and over hyped. Ronaldo will achieve great things in Spain, Rooney will spend the rest of his days bullying the likes of Charlton and Bolton and striving for red cards in major tournaments when confronted with good defenders (who can pocket mediocre and overrated strikers), so all the post match talk will not be about how average he really is but how '鈥檋is temperament let the great genius down'.

Then again he is also very likely to end up in prison. Lets face it he does look like a convict.

Was going towards the ref and complain an action that deserves HATE? Anger, yes, disappointment, Yes - but HATE??? I personally find it worse stamping another player`s private parts than complaining about this foul.
Some people really tend to forget what actually caused Ronaldo麓s reaction.

Nothing, really nothing that the young man did is worth HATE. Please remember, at the end of the day it is only a game where 22 men are chasing a ball....

Post #2 - Ronaldo is by no means the worst offender. Look at the beloved Thierry Henry and the "simulation" that led to the free kick that got France's goal against Spain. Disgraceful - only joy about watching France now is seeing him bottle it on the big stage in the same way he did in the Champions League final. Look at Italy in their first game with the guy that rolled around looking like he'd been shot, then was fine to come back on and score a minute later.

Post #5 - and why should a "middleweight Ecuadorian" get the award simply because Ronaldo is now hated by England fans? Surely the likes of Torres would be a better pick?

And don't forget England are not immune to diving - or do we still think Robinson's stint at rolling about on the floor was simply a "clever" attempt to kill some time when it looked like England's leaky defence could throw away a goal?

For all of Ronaldo's antics (and let's face it, he's no worse than Henry, Van Bommel, Pauleta, Ballack and Crouch in the cheating stakes) he has been the outstanding player for a team that reached the semi finals. I looked down the list and couldn't see any other players listed that had done half as much as he has this tournament. Podolski perhaps? It's all well and good that he can do all these tricks but if all they're doing is giving the opposition time to get back and defend then they're not much use are they?

As he so ably demonstrated with that magnificent swan dive against the French last night, he is indeed a little cheating so and so.

2) There is VIDEO EVIDENCE of Ronaldo and teammates faking all over the place - far more than other teams put together!

Ronaldo is a very talented player, but people (certainly British) value sportsmanship above precocious talent.

"CHEATING"

Ronaldo deserves all he gets and this is not all bitterness re: rooney. hes a big boy. he can take it. this is the same sentiment focused toward drogba last season, and frankly any other players who 'cheat'. its not sporting, its not a good example and in some cases I would go so far as to call it disgusting (as disgusting as hate campaigns and xenophobia !!). I for one am growing very very tired of it. I still play competitive football at a reasonable level (age 29) and this behaviour is filtering down. it will spoil my love of the game. it must be nipped in the bud in all its forms.

Clearly mr blatter has no idea how ... ohh erm, 3 yellows, erm 2 refs ???!!! get with the age of modern technology !! although he acknowledges the problem

the reasons for the responses you read, the booing, the email (i voted) etc is because the root of the problems are not being addressed.

SPORTSMANSHIP

ronaldo et al ... please go and play in other leagues so your antics are not totally adopted here to achieve a level playing field ... or at least until we have the solutions implemented.

We are spoiling Rooney

Last night I watch France beat Portugal and like many people in this country I was really happy with the results. I supported France because Portugal in their game with England like their other games were poor and I wanted the better team to win.
What surprised me so much was the booing that followed every kicked of the ball by Ronaldo. What was his crime, I kept on asking myself and friends watching with me. Am I the only person missing something, when the press (radio, television, papers etc) are all brandishing him a cheat and the 鈥渟ole鈥 person responsible for Rooney鈥檚 sending off? What did Ronaldo do that David Beckham's, A. Cole or John Terry has NEVER done? Maybe his crime is that he did not plead with the referee to keep Rooney (his team mate) on the pitch.
The point is that Rooney was sent off and when Rooney is sent off, someone鈥檚 got to pay the price for our golden boys sending off. Ronaldo鈥檚 got to pay the price and should even be declared non grata to this country. We lost because Rooney was off and Rooney was off because of Ronaldo. Rooney did nothing wrong and will thus not apologise to ANYBODY. In his own words, he was "gobsmacked" for the sending off but no, not apologetic!. Did he led the team down? The answer to that question is flying in the wind.
Rooney says; "If you ask any player - and indeed almost any fan - they will tell you that I am straight and honest in the way I play鈥. I love this country dearly and hold Man United to my heart but I am not one of those fans and what I see on the pitch or on television will not be confused by what is said by Ian Wright or Alan Shearer. We all saw what happened but these two guys bend it all to Ronaldo. Rooney鈥檚 action, accidentally or not was a straight red card fault and Rooney needs to be reminded that part of the game is avoiding such accidents and committing them will imply letting your team down!
When David Beckham's was sent off in 1998 for a stupid fault (which he could equally claim was accidental), we all rose up against him and he got the message clean and clear, 鈥渂e good young man, you are special but must not let this nation down again!. David learned from it and went on to captain this country to the next two world cups. We had a chance to prepare Rooney for this world cup when he was sent off against Northern Ireland, but what did we say; he鈥檚 young with a strong fighting spirit, he will learn things latter, you can鈥檛 take that from him, that鈥檚 how he is. Did he learn anything from it? Yeah he did; that he is the special one that does nothing wrong, he鈥檚 the golden boy who鈥檒l win the world cup single handed for us. We informed him that he was the God that could make everything possible for us and when he was substituted in his first game, he reacted by kicking and throwing his toys out of the pram. Instead of reminding him that football is a team game and to stay on the pitch he needs to play well, we all took the blame from him saying 鈥渉e鈥檚 hungry to play and frustrated鈥. What did he learned? He realised that everyone understands his frustration and he can even carry it to the pitch. He showed part of that frustration to Carvalho, Ronaldo and any of the bottles he meet on his way after the sending off! Did Rooney learn or has he learn anything? He must have, if he continues listening to our formal pros and the press urging him to start the new season by picking up a fight with his team mate on the first training day.
The most surprising thing is the fact we continue to say he鈥檚 a young man, he鈥檚 still young. Was he the youngest boy in this tournament? Was he the only stricker that was playing alone up front? I couldn鈥檛 stop admiring the young Ronaldo playing upfront, on the left wing, the right wing and even in the central midfield for his country. Frustration!!!
We not Rooney have the choice to send him the Beckham way or the George Best/ Gaza way. Rooney will take what so ever the press and supporters tell him the right way and we still have enough time to mould him before the European cup and the next world cup. I hope we will teach Rooney to lead England and not catering Town or an unknown Chinese team.
Ronaldo not Rooney will receive the reception that was reserved for Beckham after France 98 and if he continues the way he played last night, then I鈥檓 certain that Ronaldo not Rooney will go on to lead his country and stand up like a role model for millions of children around the world.

It was harsh and probably wrong to send him off but that's that. Portugal and Porto have cheated their way to success of late but they are not the only team or nation. It is up to FIFA and referees to issue harsh penalties to stamp it out. I think not.
As for the continous accusations of diving, yes he has but have we also see our own Steven Gerrad falling over for no reason ?
Did we not see Henry falling over, rolling round and clutching his face when the replays clearly showed no one had touched him. Totti has also gone to ground very easliy as have lots of players in the tournement.
On the Henry incident even Ian Right was moved to say "i am really dissapounted in Henry" but that was all that was said, why ? He cheated just the same and should be castigated in the same way that Ronaldo is being.

Lets face it, this reaction is because Rooney was sent off, we lost the game, Ronaldo was their best player and of course he scored the penalty to put us out.
As for the coverage in last nights game from the 成人快手 i thought it was absolutly outrageous.

What happened between Ronaldo and Rooney in the game of Portugal Vs England isn't unusual in the game of football. Can you say, without a doubt, that Ronaldo called for a red card on Rooney? If an opponent had done to one of our players what Rooney did to the Portugese player, do you think players of any team, England included, would sit back? We've complained to refs aswell. How many players, English ones too, have applauded a yellow or red card given to an opponent? If you were to stop being so emotional and bitter, you'd know that there's not one perfect team out there. I don't hear us protesting about Crouch's header against T&T when he held the opposings players hair to gain an advantage in getting the header and goal. If you look for faults on the English team as well as the others, you will find them. Argentina were pretty viscious against Mexico, but wait; Argentina didn't play us so it's OK for them to get away with it. Tim Borowski said something towards the Argentinians right at the end of the Germany Vs Argentina game and we all know what happened next. Why aren't we criticising every other team? Is this because we lost to Portugal? If Ronaldo was on the England team, would as many people be as against him for this award?

Considering that Ronaldo's behaviour was no worse than the actions of so many other players in this tournament it seems churlish to pick only on him. It seems to me after watching this world cup that the average professional football player has only confirmed that they are nothing more than cheating, lying spoilt children who will do anything that they think they can get away with and where the end always justifies the means. So much for the beautiful game.

For me Ronaldo is a symbol for the whole Portugese side, whose contribution to the latter stages of the tournament was almost entirely negative. They represent everything that is so frustrating about international football at the moment; consistently diving, play acting, whinging and encouraging referees to book opposing players. They have had an incredibly negative impact in this World Cup and the latter stages of the tournament was rescued only by the Germany vs Italy semi final which reminded me what the World Cup is actually all about. I am an Everton fan and am embarrassed to have a Portguese international in our team at the moment.

FIFA's two main tenets are abolishing racism in football and promoting fair play. Throughout this World Cup Portugal have not exhibited one ounce of sportsmanship. That is why they are being universally condemned by many football fans.

Last night's game against the French saw even more deplorable antics. Miguel went down after tripping over himself, there was no contact from a Fench player, but the first thing Pauleta does is start screaming for a foul with his hands in the air. Similarly, Ronaldo's dive on the edge of the box was a blatant attempt at trickery and his dive inside the box was even worse. That's just three examples that stick out in my mind. I'm sure Pauleta was involved in more, as was Meira. I hope the TSG panel give the Young Player award to a player who exhibits attributes that FIFA want to be associated with. For my money, Fabregas or Podolski should be the winner.

Now, on to that Rooney red card. I have watched that video over and over. I absolutely do NOT believe that the ref intended the red at the start of the incident, he was going to give a free kick and have done with it. Look at the picture at the bottom of the page in this link:

The ref QUITE CLEARLY is indicating a free kick with his arm. If you refute that then you're blinkered. He then rapidly changed his mind and set off after Rooney after Ronaldo's tirade. The ref has said in the media that he fully intended the red from the moment the whistle went. Absolute rubbish. Again, if you believe that you're an idiot.

All in all, I just don't think Ronaldo played fairly, nor did Portugal, and I am very glad that they went out, they're a disgrace. Mind you, England were a disgrace too, what with Cole's diving, Crouch's hair-pulling etc.

I find it incredible that Rooney's behaviour has been completely ignored - he's a walking timebomb looking for a reason to explode. he's brought shame on himself as well as stamped on any chance you had of progressing, yet "Ronald O" has been the scapegoat to avoid any blame on the shoulders of Wonder Boy.

It's also amazing how you all jump on the bandwagon, saying that you need to erradicate this sort of behaviour in football, yet the players who are some of the worst offenders are plying their trade in your self-proclaimed "best league in the world".... and don't forget, Robinson's dive was only "cheeky" while a few hours later henry's was "shameful". Double standards?

And as for the comments regarding how he's done this to earn a move to Real Madrid - could you blame him for not wanting to play for Man Utd now? The media hate him, you have the likes of Shearer encouraging somebody to "do him" in training and generally trying to hound him out the game. This the same Alan Shearer with so much ambition and confidence in his own talent he retired from International football (realise you weren't good enough Al?) and also spent the majority of his career at a nothing club where he could be the proverbial big fish in the small pond.

But nobody likes smugness. And to be honest, if Portugal had only played dirty in that one match, people would have put it down to their tactics to beat the English. But as it was, they did it against the Dutch, and if you look back to Euro 2004, they were not angels then either.

It also seems like Ronaldo is one of those kids who likes to wind people up, including his team mates. He did it to Ruud Van Nistelrooij, and Wayne Rooney.

You know the story about the boy who cried "wolf"? He kept running back into the village saying there was a wolf lurking nearby. There was no wolf. But when there really WAS one, nobody believed him and he was attacked. Well this time the wolf was a combination of French discipline and a brilliant referee.

Overall, I think Portugal's play-acting is a team effort, and I'm glad they're out. The French did the Dutch and the English a favour, now I hope they win the whole thing.

No one is complaining about the fact that Rooney quite clearly stamped his foot on Nuno Valentes leg and lost his temper and pushed Ronaldo. It should be Rooneys behaviour that we are discussing not Ronaldo's. Also given that Rooney plays in the same team as Ronaldo - should he really behave in such a childish manner towards his 'work collegue'. But then again perhaps if this hadnt happened, the England comentators would'nt have their excuses as to why England didnt win the world cup!

I think the english fans themselves need to grow up before pointing fingers.

Of course it has been hijacked! And rightly so.......

Even as an Englishman I don't have any particular axe to grind against Ronaldo concerning the Rooney incident, suprising to some maybe, but we lost because we didn't score and we are rubbish at penalty shoot-outs. My view for what it's worth on the issue is Rooney (accidently or not) stood on this guy's "tomatoes" and I think the ref was possible considering a yellow, but following the push of Ronaldo he opted for red. That's not neccessarily the fault of Ronaldo, that's as much upto Rooney to keep his temper in-check when the ref's fishing in his pocket for a card. Don't get me wrong I think players who remonstrate with the ref to give other players a card, should in fact themselves be shown a card (yellow).

HOWEVER, the idea of him being voted Best Young Play is terrible, simply because it sends out completely the wrong message to young players and kids; that diving and feigning injury etc is the way to play, and frankly I think this issue is already damaging football, nevermind the future game.

He clearly is a manipulator (oh let's say it; cheat) in trying to gain fouls, and this was in my view even more apparent in the game against france last night, his attempt to get free-kicks or penatlties is woeful, I recall one particulary incident when challenged by Signol on an incoming high-cross his attempt was blatant; mid air, on realising his chances of heading the ball had gone, arching his back and out-stretching his arms with a face of sheer agony was pathetic. And he wasn't the only one, it's obviously a directive to the Portuguese team, having said that Ronaldo & Co (the majority) do it in their respective domestic games.

To make matter worse he doesn't even see the folly of his ways and appears to have no shame at all, quoted today as saying " We played well and did our best but the referee didn't help us," This suggests to me he has no idea of the level of his own deceiving, and a misconceived idea of what the ref is there for "Everyone who saw the match could see that the referee wasn't fair." Is he talking about the same game?

For the sake of our Kids vote for anybody, but Ronaldo

Try to be objective- England were rubbish and didn't deserve to progress to the semi finals. Ronaldo was one of the most entertaining players at the tournament and the casual aplomb with which he struck his penalty merely highlighted how abject the efforts from Lampard, Gerrard and Carragher had been.

It's disturbing to see the amount of raw hatred pervading this blog, not for Ronaldo, but for the English. So many comments are irrelevant and seem to be an excuse to have a go at the English. Let's get some things straight shall we: 1. the media do not equal the public. Every time there's a large tournament, the press work up a hype (perhaps so the defeat is all the more spectacular when they come to sell their newspapers after we go out) that is not reflected by reasonable Englishmen, who did NOT assume that England were going to win the tournament. Why should they have a better chance then the likes of Brazil, Argentina, Italy, France, etc.? We're not stupid. Stop swallowing the rubbish in the press and talk to the guy in the street. 2. To this day I have not seen a single word written anywhere to suggest that Ronaldo was responsible for England's exit. So where has this bizarre criticism that the English must find a scapegoat come from? The British nations have a strong sense of sportsmanship and are disgusted at the antics of many foreign teams, Ronaldo crossed the line in a big way by doing this against his own club teammate, the rest of the criticism is just aftershock. Foreigners that post here have been brought up with a mentality very alien to sportsmanship and should try to understand it before making comments about "Ronaldo did what he had to do". 3. It is not just the English that are criticising the Portuguese. I speak five languages, including Portuguese, and have been reading news in all those languages. Unsurprisingly the Portuguese think they should have had a spate of penalties last night and that Henry's wasn't a penalty at all. This is the kind of mentality we're dealing with. 4. Before criticising the English for voting for Valencia to beat Ronaldo, bear in mind that Ronaldo himself was put there by an intense media campaign in Portugal and, surprise surprise, the Scottish, who really need to take a look at themselves before they get on their soap box about the English.
5. Yes, diving has crept into the English game and is becoming a problem, but this IS criticised by the English public who are determined to see the end of it, whereas in Portugal and Argentina, for example, this kind of behaviour is often seen as 'clever'; there is also a huge difference between occasionally diving and getting back up again, and diving, feigning serious injury, and surrounding the referee brandishing imaginary cards nearly EVERY SINGLE TIME there's a foul. Keep things in perspective please. 6. Do the English turn a blind eye when their own players dive? Rubbish. The fact that those criticising this are able to point this out is because it has been shown to them by press and TV. Crouch's hair pull against Portugal was replayed multiple times and commented upon, Henry (to the guy writing above) received some very damning criticism after his tangle with Pujol, if these comments don't seem as harsh as against Portugal players then this is because the former do it on occasions and not at every possible opportunity. 7. To say that teammates' protests is 'normal' is far from the truth. It is not normal, did anybody see the Portuguese surrounding the referee last night after one of their player's had gone down with not a France player near him? They do it out of habit and because they know that they are wearing the referee down, the more they protest and show that they are hard done by, the more likely the referee is to give out bookings, sendings off, free kicks, and penalties. Barcelona do it for fun. It works. This is bad enough in itself, but why pick on Ronaldo in particular? What short memories you people have: HE DID IT AGAINST HIS OWN CLUB TEAMMATE.

Anybody that debates these points does not understand the power of sportsmanship in the minds of the British. It's not surprising to see that most of the pro-Ronaldo party here is foreign. It just shows that it is a lost cause trying to advertise sportsmanship and fairplay to latin countries, and looking at the trend in the Premiership it is disturbingly going in the opposite direction.

Every pundit and ex player with the exception of marcel dessailly seems keen to tell tales themselves about ronaldos antics but its some how not okay for ronaldo to encourage disiplinary action towards an opposition player stamping on his fellow team mate. Think you all are a little keen to blame somebody else for an england campaign that showed the team cant pass well or work as a unit. Boring in my opinion

He protested against one teammate who stamped on another teammate, Carvalho. He didn't wave an imaginary card (look again - it's not shown on any of the replays), he did nothing more than you would have done in the circumstances.

There are lots of reasons in football to be embarrassed about being English, but this constant whinging is fast becoming the worst. You'd rather attack a 20 year old boy than admit we were at fault.

I thought yesterday's match was pretty disappointing for several reasons, and not all of them had to do with the quality of play.

Let's start with the Ronaldo booing bit - did anyone else think this was childish and pathetic? Granted, Ronaldo is hardly an ambassador for fair play, and I'm as irked as anybody else with his efforts at winding up Rooney, the head butt before the game started, the winking and the obvious diving. I still don't think that's any reason for the spectators to give him or any other player the equivalent of a public lynching. It was an ugly display more akin to the 1936 Olympics than the 2006 World cup! It didn't stop him being the best portugese player on the pitch anyway.

Then there was all the diving, which reached epic proportions yesterday, but has been present in just about every match. I disagree with anyone who calls this 'trivial' or 'part of the game'. It is only so because as things stand players are likely to get away with it. It HAS to be stamped out for the good of the game and the only way to do this is to to bring video replays into the rules, one way or another.

The game itself: I thought France were the slightly better side because they seemed to have players with at least a remote chance of scoring, unlike Portugal. However their 2nd half tactic of piling bodies into their own half and abandoning ball possession hardly made for impressive play, and unless they step up several gears I believe the Italians will make very short work of them on Sunday.

And finally on to MOTD: like many of you I found the comments to be incredibly daft and Ian Wright wasn't even there! What was that nonsense about the last 16 matches being poor, just after we'd seen the Germany Italy match? Shearer's bit about how many semifinal players would have made it to the England team had me in fits! That they're still talking about the 'golden generation' of English football makes me think that the 成人快手 pundits did not see the Germany Italy game because it was on ITV!

I wouldnt choose any French player, if I had to, I would choose Zidane (duh) but he was a sample of himself compared to the match against brazil.
I would never choose Henry for his "made it easy" Penalties wich gave France 2 victories.

Just like England lost, not being able to beat Portugal after 120 minutes of football, and having never been good enough in this tournament (even our commentators were negative from the outset...bloody Motson)...it's the way of the world!

Ronaldo's a cheat. Last night against France showed that. Diving when nobody was near him.

He's the same as many european players. Diving is a cancer that needs banning. FIFA have the pictures. Thay have the power. DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT NOW.

They'd NEVER survive a game of Rugby.

Even Henry's at it now...but then after the Champions League final he did say he would have to learn to dive. It paid off.

Ronaldinho's an exception. His focus is the ball no matter who is kicking/pushing him.

A great player.

That's Ronaldinho...not Ronaldo (the skinny one).

But of course the english press has found an excuse for the failure of its stars....the best youngest footballer at this years world cup..Ronaldo. Sorry England it could have been Rooney but for his stupidity.

Maybe The press should stop the hype otherwise it may be another 40 years from now before they even reach another semi-final. Right now they are just not even good enuff in the best eight.

Portugal were not the only ones who tried to cheat - Holland were worse in the game against Portugal. How Robbing of Chelsea can show his face after the dives he made is beyond me. But then, he earns so much he can't turn that down and diving for Chelsea will be appreciated by their fans as much the Utd fans will apreciate Ronaldo diving for them.

I find it hilarious that Portuguese fans keep saying that England (mostly Joe Cole) was diving just as much as Ronaldo. People say get over it, Well now Portugal must get over Henry's dive. Ha! Poetic justice if I've ever seen it.
Rooney got sent off because he tried to play English football against the South American style. And with an Argentine ref? of course he got sent off. It seems that everybody dives sometimes at this level of football, but to say that England dives as much as Portugal is laughable.

I'm shocked with these senseless feelings of "anti-Portugal" and "anti-Ronaldo", only explained by a bad losing attitude and perhaps a feeling of superiority over a small country named Portugal (I can't find a rational explanation, I'm sorry).

We have to differentiate between politics and ethnic dislikes and enjoy the game. I was stunned to find out that Chelsea fans were disgusted by Drogba's diving last year since anywhere else on the globe they'd be smirking. I am convinced that in 1986 Maradona would have never got a chance to enter the penalty box dribbling past a squad had it been any other team than England, simply because he would have been handed his Achilles' tendons on a platter by some defender. Of course I have seen English players fake but proportionally their offences to the rest of us are miniscule. I also used to admire the Portuguese national team until its disgraceful perofrmance in this World Cup. Several players (Figo, Deco, Maniche, Ronaldo etc.) have reverted to the faking tactics, orchestrated by Scolari, forcing non-existing fouls and suspensions by among other things holding their faces every time someone "fingered" their arms. Shame for a team whose fans I still hold in great respect for applauding us instead of showering with bottles after defeating them in the final 2 years ago. What class!

Bottom line, Ronaldo is part of his team's greater picture; indeed a great player like so many more (Zahovitz, Maradona, Stoichkov etc.) But to be the best player you must be a complete "package", including character, otherwise join a circus to continue your joggling.

England had every reason to be agrieved against Portugal for their tactics as they were against Argentina in 98 for Simeons and others tactics. Outside of England (ignore the Scottish) the general concensus is Roonie should have been sent off which I cannot disagree with. But recall his situation. He was being aggressively hounded by two defenders (probably with the intention of winding him up)yet he stayed on his feet and battled on. (What happened to the directive 'to protect the tallented players ref?')I wonder what a Portugese player would have done? We in the UK have the good fortune to see both players regularly and most will agree Roonie is worth 2 or 3 Ronaldos. This episode hopefully will be a useful lesson to Roonie and We will see him rise to be a true world superstar like Zidane.

Live in the very early AM and replayed again during prime time. It has been a joy to watch such talented players showing their "stuff" on the world stage. However the thing that bothers the heck out of me and so many North Americans is the behaviour of players such as Ronaldo. Soccer players are seen here as the biggest whimps in professional sports. Touch a player with a feather and he goes down like he's been gut shot by a shotgun and rolls around in performance worthy of an Oscar. Although football, soccer to us, is a world sport it has never gained a large North American following, because of such histrionics. It detracts from the game and such spectacles as a Zidane creating magic and carrying his team when by all accounts he should be collecting his old age pension and rocking away at a retirement home. I hope that someone like Ronaldo matures, Rooney gets a hold of his temper, and will both entertain us for many years to come. I would hope that such talented players would strive to leave behind as their legacy to the sport, great play and sportsmanship rather than petulant displays currently in vogue.

It was hooliganism and criminal behaviour to inflict serious pain on an opponent. This cannot be censured strongly enough.

Ronaldo's role in this entire thing was very minor given the crime. If the roles had been reversed and Ronaldo had done the stomping and Rooney the pleading you can be assured the British press and fans would have crucified Ronaldo while applauding Rooney. If a player stamps on your team-mate's gooneys what are you supposed to do? Smile and shake his hand because he is your club team-mate?

Now I hear about people rigging the vote on the Young Player of the Tournament and I feel sick at the stupidity and petty vindictiveness that this shows. These people are the ones spoiling the beautiful game and not Ronaldo.

I think Cristiano Ronaldo should get the Nobel peace prize, how else to explain how he can make the english forgive Maradona for the Hand of God and make the English support France.

Tabloids are probably for blame for the english trauma at penalties, you could see the fear on the english penalty takers, what would happen to them if they missed? In this case, nothing, since they lucked out and there is a foreigner to be blamed for winking, it麓s the Wink of God, so much more serious than the Hand of God since Maradona was a genius who would not stoop low.

Cristiano Ronaldo really did eliminate England, but it did not happen when Rooney was sent off, it happened when in a very unfriendly crowd he does what he should and scores a penalty. That was his cardinal sin, though of course nothing that can be admitted out loud. Losing is only acceptable if everybody agrees that the other side is the best in the world, so if somebody else does win they must have cheated. And about unbearable smugness, take a good luck at yourself England.

Blame Ronaldo now, don麓t demand any change from Rooney and see what happens next time you got a decisive match or a penalty shoot out. I am sure a foreigner will be found to be blamed then as well.

OK, in the modern game everybody dives. It's part of the game these days - where result can be determined by a free kick or penalty or even having an opponent sent off, players have learned to be more than a little cute when it comes to going down under the softest challenge (Torres v Ukraine), running onto prostrate opponent (Grosso v Australia) or making the most of a genuine clip on the ankles (Henry v Portugal). Ronaldiver however has taken things to new heights - he not only dives, but follows this up with vociferous protests and referee-chasing. We all saw this in the semi-final, where after falling to the floor he went pleading to the referee - and was joined by his coach for good measure. Then there is the Rooney incident which has been done to death.

The Young Player award has now six candidates - who will be rated on style, charisma, fair play and appetite for the game, as well as pure technical skill:

Traquillo Barnetta - had a decent tournament, scoring a cracking goal in thr group phase. However as part of a dour Swiss side, he really didn't have much of a chance to show off his abilities to the full.

Cesc Fabregas - was on the pitch for less than half of Spain's match time, but did make an impression in the group stages. Stands a chance, but Spain's early elimination would rule him out of the reckoning IMO.

Lionel Messi - I think this guy is just there because he is called Lionel Messi. Only played 122 minutes, and despite running rings around a tired Serb defence didn't really do much.

Christiano Ronaldo - did plenty, and showed off his great skill and verve. However he fails miserably on the fair play front. If this guy wins the award I can only conclude that fair play is not that important.

Luis Valencia - I was really impressed with this guy during the first phase games against Poland and Costa Rica, but when it came to taking on tougher opposition he was more or less absent. He was strong and competitive without being dirty, and stands a decent chance.

Lukas Podolski - my choice for the award. No one could match him for sheer enthusiasm - as much as he would make his way into attacking positions he would also make his presence felt in the middle of the park defending. Scored three cracking goals, and was unlucky not to add more to his tally - if he had managed to connect with Odonkor's cross in the semi he would have been a shoo-in. Always had a smile on his face, and represents the new and dynamic face of German football which was born at WC2006.

No doubt Ronaldo is extremely talented and he has proved it in this world cup. I dont see any reason why this anti-slogan started against him.
I guess the british media was the one which emphasised much against him after their pathetic display on quarter finals. Englad team does not deserve a place in the 2nd round and they should be glad for what they achieved with their skills. They havent displayed any superior technical football skills like players such as Riquelme, Tevez, Klose, Zidane, Ballack and Messi demonstrated. In a way England is responsible for whatever they got and finding a scape goat in a budding player like Ronaldo to vent out their agony is mere stupidity.

This is a classic case of sour grapes if I ever heard one. If Wayne Rooney had ever played in a pickup match with the likes of say, Vinnie Jones (another notorious attacker of private parts), and kicked HIM in the "groin area", Wayne would not only have a red card, but a spinal cord injury resulting from the worst beating ever received. He should consider himself fortunate. Undoubtedly, Ronaldo was behaving like a big baby in every way (what a shocker for a 20 year old kid.) But if you want to blame someone, blame FIFA. Their insistence at being much more stringent with penalties awarded and more liberal with yellow and red cards has led to all this ridiculous and effeminate overacting just to get the call. Some of these guys don't belong on a pitch, they belong in Hollywood.

The whole 'let's vote against Ronaldo' thing is just s bit of fun and a way for supporters to get involved, so why not? Jorge said that Rooney deserved to be sent off - what about Luis Figo and his blatant head butt on Van Bommel? He should never have faced England. The ref of the Portugal v Holland match was criticised for over-zealous use of the cards, but from what I saw, all the Portugese ones were deserved. In fact, Costinha should have got another yellow before his handball for a crude ankle kick, and Deco should have got a straight red for his deliberate hack, and been banned for 3 games. True, the ref missed the high challenge on Ronaldo but he also missed the one on Robben.
The France game should have seen at least 2 yellows for Portugese diving, especially a blatant one in the penalty area. Yet afterwards, Scolari went off screaming at the ref and Ronaldo whinged on about how the ref was biased in favour of the French. Portugal play good football and have very skilful players but as long as they dive and playact, they'll be criticsed for it. Obviously, they're not the only one at it, but it does seem to be part of their game. I just wish that FIFA would do something about instead of simply talking; retrospective punishments should be handed out. It's often too difficult for a ref to judge a dive or a feigned injury in a game. Also, stop handing out yellows for silly, trivial things. Who cares if a player celebrates by taking his shirt off? If players know they can others sent off, they'll play up to that.

Rooney was always going to get a red and surely the tabloids should be questioning why Beckham, Lampard and Gerrard failed miserably to repeat their club form rather than spreading hate against this year's scapegoat. In the end, we've got to remember; it's just a football game. Why do people get so wound up about it and the cheating and the stuff that goes on. Personally, I do like football and I did watch the world cup, but really... there are lines to be drawn. For a start, we put so much hope into 23 players (ordinary people like ourselves, doing their job. how many of you lot out there can claim to have done their job to a 100% standard every single time?), that's got to be hard enough as it is. Secondly, we form a degree of hate when something doesn't go our way. Yes, Wayne Rooney stood on Carvahlo, regardless of whether it was purposeful or not. And yes, Ronaldo did not need to get involved with the ref. But for heavens sake, what's happened has happened and it's in the past. Learn to get on with it. Stop living in the past and look forward to the next european cup. Even if England went out of the World Cup a little unfairly, deal with it. Life goes on. Ronaldo may not have made himself popular with his pretty-boy antics, but he's only, what, 20 years old? He's still a kid. Kids do that. He's got a lot of talent, but just needs to grow up a bit. Once he grows up and learns a bit of sportsmanship then i believe he can go a long way.
Thirdly, I think for starters that for any of the Scottish people who started to boycott the vote are extremely pathetic. For starters, you didn't even make it to the World Cup! Don't take it out on England. Jealousy is a terrible thing. But for the English fans to retaliate by boycotting the vote further is just fuel for the fire. It's not doing any justice and is only going to make relations worse between the countries. It's pathetic and childish. At the end of the day, these players that everyone is basing their opinions on are just ordinary people. Sure, Ronaldo hasn't helped himself and he's bound to get stick when he gets back to England, but just open your eyes a little people. Realise.

It seems that this blog is getting seriously hijacked as a 'offloading-our-hatred-of-the-English' blog.

This blog is about Ronaldo and the FIFA young player vote. So I wonder why so many posts seem to diverge and give us diatribes about the English, English players, and Rooney. First of all, whether Rooney was guilty of anything more than losing his balance in a sandwich of two players kicking him around is open to debate; unless you are telepaths, keep it shut. Secondly, Rooney was sent off, and nobody except a tiny minority (probably the English equivalent of anti-English racists on this board) suggested that the referee made the wrong decision; whether it was an accident or not, it DID look bad, and from appearances the referee was right to send him off; very few have complained about this, so once again, those saying that we blame the referee because we're "whinging poms" or whatever, you're making up phantom arguments. Similarly, I don't remember anybody but Beckham taking the brunt of the nation's bitterness in '98. Have we changed so much since then? You're just looking for excuses to have a go at the English, and stooping to the level of what you think you are criticising in doing so. But when all is said and done, all of that is irrelevant. The debate is about the antics of the Portuguese and Ronaldo in particular, regardless of whether England won or lost, or of the merits of Rooney's sending off. If you want to debate the English fans, players, and Rooney, do it elsewhere. Has this all been put into sharper focus because England were victims of it? Of course it has Einstein! What's the problem with this? Do people not suddenly lead political or fundraising campaigns when they are a victim of a crime or a disease? Putting the evils of the world into sharper focus is not wrong, whatever the motive. Wanting to see punishment for wrongdoers is not whinging. There has been other cheating at the World Cup and we have been equally disgusted by it; we even cringed at the odd dive from the English. Herein lies the difference, we cringe, we feel ashamed; where latins say 'nice one, well done'.
In summary:
* THE ENGLISH HAVE NOT SCAPEGOATED RONALDO FOR THEIR LOSS, FIND AN ARTICLE THAT SUGGESTS THIS BEFORE JUMPING TO CONCLUSIONS!
* YOU DO NOT KNOW ROONEY'S INTENTIONS IN PUTTING HIS FOOT DOWN AND IS, IN ANY CASE, IRRELEVANT TO THE DEBATE OF PLAY-ACTING AND RONALDO'S OWN BEHAVIOUR.
* NOBODY HAS CRITICISED THE REFEREE.
* DO NOT POST COMMENTS ABOUT THE ENGLISH AND PORTUGUESE IN GENERAL UNLESS YOU WISH TO OPEN A BROADER DEBATE ABOUT THE ENTIRE MORALITY OF A NATION. CRITICISING ENGLISH TAXPAYERS IN PORTUGAL AND CONDEMNING THE WHOLE NATION FOR IT IS EXTREMELY NARROW-MINDED.
* THE ENGLISH "DO" ACCEPT THAT THEY LOST DUE TO THEIR TACTICAL FRAILTIES AND LACK OF QUALITY, AND TOOK THE LOSS ITSELF PERFECTLY GRACEFULLY. IT SHOWS YOUR SENSE OF PERSPECTIVE IF YOU CONSIDER US WORSE LOSERS THAN ARGENTINA V. GERMANY AND THE PORTUGUESE THEMSELVES AFTER THEIR LOSS (PARTICULARLY SCOLARI). THE DISGUST AT PORTUGUESE ANTICS IS COMPLETELY IRRELEVANT TO THE LOSS AND IS INDIGNANCE TO THE ABUSE OF FAIR PLAY, NO MORE NO LESS AS AN ENTIRELY SEPARATE ISSUE TO THE RESULT OF THE GAME. SO, YES, JONATHAN YOUR COMMENTS ARE COMPLETELY GROUNDLESS AND BORN OF YOUR OWN ANTI-ENGLISH RACISM. IF YOU SPOKE SPANISH YOU WOULD HAVE READ THE COMMENTS FROM THE ARGENTINIANS WHO ARE STILL BEMOANING THE HOMER REFEREE, SAYING THEY ARE THE STILL THE BEST TEAM, AND GERMANY ARE NOT EVEN 1/10 THE TEAM THEY ARE; BUT YOU CHOOSE ONLY TO FOCUS ON THE ENGLISH.

As an outsider, I believe that English football will never improve until they address their lack of skill relative to the rest of the strong football nations. Really, focusing on Ronaldo as the reason for their exit is a true diversion. It probably would be more productive to look at their way overhiped striker who throws little tantrums and accounts for an overwhelming total of 0 goals.
The indignation is amusing and shows a great passion for football but ultimately it is a symptom of the greater delusion that the English have about their competitiveness. It is as if English supporters believe they would have gone through had this terrible injustice not occurred. Alas they did not and Ronaldo had his best performance of the tournament...he probably gets a kick out of this too.

Firstly, Rooney did not deserve to be sent off against portugal. He was the one who was being fouled in the build up to the incident and the so called 'stamp' was no such thing. Look at the footage again, Rooney's only focus was on retaining possession of the ball. He was being fouled lost his balance and his foot went out to support himself. Rooney himself denies any wrongdoing and is willing to take any ban that fifa dish out rather than admit to something he didn't do.

Secondly the ref did not send rooney off for the so called 'stamp'. Again watch the footage and it is obvious the referee has no intention of isuing a card until Ronaldo intervenes. It was the push that the referee sent Rooney off for and in it is my belief that the referee saw a replay of the incident realised he had made a mistake and rewrote history by claiming it was the 'stamp' that Rooney was carded for.

As for Ronaldo, as gifted as he is his actions (and those of the portuguese team in general) have been detrimental to the supposedly beautiful game. Diving, rolling around, the clutching of faces as though they have been hit, haranguing referees, waving imaginary cards to get opponents sent off all common place at this world cup and all completely disgusting and against the laws and spirit of the game.

You can moan about the English and the stereotypes that go with it but the English premier league is widely regarded as the fairest and cleanest in world football. Yes the huge rise in the import of foreign footballers has seen an increase in diving/simulation but on the whole these incidants are few and far between and the large majority of fans would not stand for it becomin g anymore widespread.

I'm afraid that Ronaldo only has himself to blame, headbutting an opponent before a game and telling them that you are going to get them sent off is way beyond decent behaviour. I think ronaldo deserves everything he gets at the moment and i feel if would be a travesty if the young player of the tournament was someone who plays the game in such spirit. What message does that send out to our children, those playing football at grass roots. Do we want them to believe that in order to be successful they need to cheat.

i would encourage people to vote against ronaldo and the fifa technical committee to do likewise and help maintain the integrity of our game.

All those things about Ronaldo demand a card from Ref was shameful, a bad reflection on the English fans in general. That just means you cannot accept defeat and the fact that your star striker was acting like a wild bull. In the eyes of the neutral (I right am), you should be ashamed of your star striker for what he did at that situation. Striker is often closely marked and if the revenge was to step on someone's groin rather than scoring against the opponent, that I would consider a behaviour of a loser. A campaign of "rooneythecoward" should be more appropriate.

I think ronaldo should be loaned out to a division two side and made to apologise in front of fans how not to treat a team mate.

Ronaldo is a great player. He is definately guilty of unsporting behaviour in trying to influence the referee, but that is the same unsporting behaviour visable in plenty of premiership games. Has the great John Terry never complained to a referee? And Ronaldo's team mates were Portugese on that day, not Man U.

This is just part of the game now, and making Ronaldo guilty for a common failing is reactionary and childish.

So he winked. Big stars have big egos, and a cocky atitude goes with it. I can learn to live with that, sooner than I can a kick in the balls. How easy it is to gang up on a kid, all tabloid guns blazing, whilst the true villain rides off with 24 million quid in his saddlebags, leaving his talentless sidekick in charge.

As for Ronaldo: the Fifa wrote on their homepage its not only about the playing but also about fairplay so if Ronaldo would win it would be a farce.. Me will keep my fingers crossed for Fabregas, he deserves it! Great talent!

I didn't mention the wink, sunshine. His general demeanor gives that away. Or were you too busy being a smart ar$e to spot that?

The diving of the Portugal players was disgraceful on Wednesday and you don't need to be an England fan to spot that. Portugal have had wonderful players for some years now. All they have needed is a goalscorer - perhaps they want penalties instead. Exactly what did they bring to this World Cup?

At least two great teams are contesting the final.

And against France, well I think that Henry was already falling when Ricardo Carvalho touched him...but that doesn't matter anymore! We lost, and that is ok for Portuguese people! We are proud of our team. Not because they reached the semi-finals but because they tried to honour our country. And they made it!
I'm just sad because Figo will not get the trophy he certainly deserves for his entire career. Oh and mad because of those who put the Portuguese football with "bad name". If the English are so sickening, what exactly are you doing here, doing exactly the same thing as the butt of your criticism? Being impartial, subjective, and blind to the misdemeanours of your own football team and nation (which in any case is irrelevant as we're talking about the football teams, not the people). Quite why there is a need for some of you to come on here and call us all hooligans is quite beyond me. Vidya, your post is completely pointless, but it is representative of all the anti-English posts here:

1. Instead of focusing on why their superstars failed >>> the failure of our superstars is an entirely separate issue and has been under just as much scrutiny; there is room in our papers for both issues believe it or not.
2. They have made a scapegoat of poor Ronaldo. "Poor" Ronaldo has not been made a scapegoat at all. The English accept they lost fair and square, the behaviour of the Portuguese is an entirely separate issue. As a United fan before an England fan first and foremost I felt ashamed that one of my club's players was capable of scheming against his own teammate.
3. A straight red for Rooney. Yes. Who has questioned this? Tell me. Who? Don't put words into our mouths.
4. He deserved it. Well, you don't know his intentions so don't jump to conclusions.
5. Joe Cole diving. Yes, the English are starting to dive more and more, but don't say it's the same as the five blatant dives in the penalty area during the France game, the constant hounding of the referee, and the constant theatre of "players" on the floor.
6. Henry. He has also been criticised. But this is the first time we have seen Henry do anything like that in a very long time. Ronaldo makes a living out of it.
7. Henry's penalty against Portugal: Do you have super slow-mo replays in Portugal? Carvalho clearly kicked Henry's standing leg and even though Henry tried to continue running his balance had been compromised and could not stay on his feet. It is unbelievable subjectivity not to be able to see this in the replay.

In the 1966 Quarter final between Argentina and England, Argentina had to play with 10 men because the Referee sent off the Argentine captain Rattin (in a match where English fouls doubled Argentine ones) because he 鈥 did not like the look on his face鈥 and because Rattin was allegedly insulting a referee who later on admitted to not understanding a word of Spanish.

Ronaldo will achieve great things in Spain, Rooney will spend the rest of his days bullying the likes of Charlton and Bolton and striving for red cards in major tournaments when confronted with good defenders (who can pocket mediocre and overrated strikers), so all the post match talk will not be about how average he really is but how 鈥樷檋is temperament let the great genius down鈥.

Then again he is also very likely to end up in prison. Lets face it he does look like a convict.

Why cant you just accept that most of the world think that Rooney deserved to be sent off for violent behaviour on the football pitch while Ronaldo is being made a scapegoat cos he dared to encourage the ref, which we see players of EVERY nation do in every game these days.

The problem that we have is that a pathetic minority of english 'football fans' tried to rig a vote against someone who they childishly blame for their team going out of the WC. Dont call ronaldo a cheat for diving or speaking to the ref and then justify someone else doing the same Diving is diving, cheating is cheating whether its Ronaldo, Cole, Terry or Henry!! its all the same!!!! .

The ire is aimed at the minority of big babies who just cant stand losing again!!! This is just Maradonna, Koeman etc all over again. Well guess what....it happens to everyone elses teams too!!!. Stop banging on about for years and years and thinking that we should all agree. The rest of us just have a grumble and forget about it. It is just a bloody game!!!

Re read all of these blogs and you will see plenty of hatred and racism directed towards nations other than england too!!!!

Stuart Pritchard. I shouldn't waste my breath on people that are quicker at having a go at the English than they are at seeking reason. If you had done the latter you would have read in my last post: "A straight red for Rooney. Yes. Who has questioned this? Tell me. Who? Don't put words into our mouths." From appearances Rooney deserved to be sent off, I have always said this and nothing to the contrary. Learn to read. What you and I and nobody but God knows is what Rooney's real intentions are, and given that putting his foot down to keep his balance is just as plausible an explanation as a stamp on Carvalho, who are we to pass divine judgement? Don't be so arrogant that you think you are in possession of all the "facts".

The problem you're having with some English voting against Ronaldo is exactly the same problem that put him there in the first place: an intense campaign from people of your own nation who have adopted Ronaldo as their national hero; if that's not childish then I don't know what is. At least the English can support their actions as a form of delivering what they see as justice; while the Scottish can only look back to age-old hatred and anti-English invective base in the modern day on nothing in particular.

To say that all cheating is the same is like saying that all crimes are the same, wouldn't the legal system be so much simpler if that were true. Again, if you read my posts properly you will see that I have accepted that English players have cheated themselves, but you haven't read my posts properly have you. So what is your point exactly? Let's try again shall we:"Joe Cole diving. Yes, the English are starting to dive more and more, but don't say it's the same as the five blatant dives in the penalty area during the France game, the constant hounding of the referee, and the constant theatre of "players" on the floor." It's really bizarre that you have made up so many points that are contradicted quite clearly in my last post. Ronaldo a scapegoat? No, he's been vilified, but not at any time has anyone said he was guilty for England's exit. People, stop making things up. God, I'm getting tired of arguing with such small-minded buffoons who argue about what they think you say and not what you actually say.

This is a stupid post. Ronaldo is an amazing player. He is strong, fast, full of tricks, good in the air and has a great shot. Every english supporter I talked to before the game was dearly hoping he wouldnt play.

As he grows he will surely go on to be a legend of the game. Not giving him the young player of the year was a joke. All because the TV cameras caught him doing what happens in all football. Those who dont know this havent played football at any decent level.

It is typical of the narrow mindedness of english supporters to prasie this appaling decision. I notice no one on this post mentions the england team "cheating" in 1966 by claiming the ball was over the line when they knew it wasnt. Even this world cup did crouch not pull a defender out of the way by his hair to score. He cheated too yes perfect peter. Shearer finsihed his career pushing, backing in... just breaking what rules he could to be an amazing player. You know what its part of the game.

Ever seen early Pele. They kicked the shins of him. You think he just took it pointlessly. Didnt try to get those who kicked him sent of. Watch again more closely. Just watch modern football? Notice how easily the modern player goes down. Professional footballers play for what they can get and we all praise them when they win a penalty for our team.

Stop transferring blame to others. England are out for playing bad even on a dream draw. Great players playing so defensive and badly that every neutral celebrated there departure every bit as much Ukraines or the Swiss. Need to blame someone, Sven? well maybe but given the stupid pressure you all bring on your own team try a mirror first.
