Winning website
The results have been announced of the and I'm delighted to say that the has won the People's Voice award in the News category.
This award is decided by public vote, so THANK YOU to everyone who voted for us. It means a great deal to everyone working on the site - journalists, designers, developers and others - to know that you appreciate what we are doing.
Congratulations, too, to the , which won this year's Webby award for best News site (an accolade which we've been the proud recipients of in the past) as well as both prizes in the category for best newspaper website.
For the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ News website, this year has seen some fairly big changes, and there are more ahead.
Behind the scenes, we've changed things around quite a bit organisationally, merging the online department with TV and radio news last October to create a multimedia newsroom. That has meant a lot of change for people working in our editorial teams - new bosses, different meetings, wider editorial discussions, and a physical move of the main online news desks to the new combined newsroom, which happens next month. There have been some early dividends from all this for the website, for example a clearer remit for all ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ correspondents and producers out reporting on a story to be thinking of and filing for the website as well as broadcast outlets.
Other changes on the site in recent months have included the launch of a new look and wider pages (these changes are still rolling out across the various sections of the site), the introduction of advertisements on the site when viewed outside the UK, and - most recently - the inclusion of embedded video clips on stories, which has already significantly driven up usage of video.
It is not the first time we have won the , but in the midst of all these changes, and with more developments to come later in the year, it is especially appreciated now, so thank you again.

Rest of the site still looks rubbish though. Don't forget that the Sun is the UK's biggest-selling paper...

I think that in all news items, the reports corresponding to them which have been broadcast on the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ's TV and radio channels should be embedded. The same approach could be adopted with sport too.

It prevents me from viewing the video in a player of my choice.
It means that I can't scroll away, close the page, load new content or switch to a different tab while leaving the video running.
I could do any and all of those with the MMS streams; hence my regarding this use of Flash as a backward step, big enough that I choose to ignore the video (to the extent of causing my browser not to display it).
Providing links to the Flash videos for use in an external player (or a media player plugin) would address this nicely.

However as an overseas reader/viewer living in China i am outraged that you feel the need to still place 30sec ads before footage of the eathquake victims in Sichuan!!! Even more so because the clip I keep being shown is 'got some good news' from Hyundai..... well no not particularly i have friends who are stuck in cities with no power and water and have lost their families in an earthquake .... and now will definitely not be buying a hyundai thankyou!!!
Come on ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ.... you're content is usually pretty good but can't you have a conscience and actually consider your ad flights and content before bombaring every viewer with unsolicitated promotions????

I am just curious to ask if the new system means that the editors cant reply, The 'conversation' that you said this would bring is still one way. Now I accept that some blogs have no comments, they cant reply, But some only have one or two, Surely a quick answer would be achievable.
With the numbers brought down so drastically I would have thought the editors would engage more as they have a smaller, 'audience'.
Not surprisingly this is not the case. Not one single reply across any of the blogs on your main page.

You seem to have decided to write acronyms in "proper case" rather than upper case. Acronyms such as "SAT" (Scholastic Aptitude Test) has become "Sat" so in sentences it becomes:
"Sats trouble even the most..."
Who sat what where uh?
This appears to be a blanket policy and has been applied to Pc (Police Constable), Cas (who is this lady Cas and what is she doing with my Citizens Advice Scotland?)
I like anyone else embrace written and spoken language as ever evolving forms of communication but when it gets the point where you aren't communicating effectively you need to take a step back.
So why on Earth have you started doing this? It has been a gripe of mine for a while!
