Panorama redesign

Derren Lawford | 10:05 UK time, Monday, 12 May 2008

I'm just starting a new job looking after the multi-media presence of the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ's longest running investigations programmes, Panorama, and I'd like to ask you for some help.

It's been a big 12 months for Panorama, covering a wide range of topics from to and in .

We've also seen our past stories hit the news again, most recently with coming back into the fore following a review into business practices at defence firm .

One of my responsibilities will be completely relaunching the Panorama website. In the next few months, I hope we will be bringing you a new and very much improved site. That's why I'd like to hear from anyone who already uses it, what do you rate and what do you hate? Your feedback here will help us as we set about redesigning the way it looks and works.

It's also clear to me on starting the new position, however, that as a team we don't always know how our stories affect people. Do they alter people's perceptions of the world? Do they change their behaviour? Do they stick in the mind for days or weeks after broadcast?

So please let me know about how past Panoramas have affected you or your thoughts.

You said you don't always know how our stories affect people. Do they alter people's perceptions of the world?

The BAE Systems programme revealed only one aspect of the problem and raised many questions which remain unanswered.

What was the involvement of the MOD? Could they be ignorant of the 'sales process'.?

Why would Saudi Arabia want to buy such ancient designed planes?

Why do they train with British planes but fight with American?

How do U.S. companies sell to Saudi Arabia?

Are the MOD and the British arms industry instituionally corrupt?

One could go on and on.

The programme changed my perception that Britain should have its own defence manufacturing industry but is this view more universal than before the Panorama programme?

Will we ask why a 20 year old Lynx helicopter costs twice the price of a modern American one that out performs it in almost every way? Or, perhaps, you will ask for us in a future Panorama investigation.

I would like to see Panorama put some of its background material online. There must be longer vesions of interviews, documents or just links to the websites of people concerned in the stories that would be of use to people who want to find out more about the issues.

    Derren,

Firstly, let me congratulate you on your new position, as an avid watcher of Panorama I would like to second the proposal of CharlieBeckett in post 2, it would be of great value if some additional documents were put on the site to allow people to explore the stories further if they so wish.

It would also be of interest if the website gives updates on stories that it has aired

Just on a presentation point, the topping and tailing of the programme by Jeremy Vine (or any presenter), who never plays any further part in the programme, doesn't work well at all. I've heard many people comment on this.

    Derren,

Firstly, let me congratulate you on your new position....

I hope the PANORAMA will be redesign to make it a EXCELLENT programme.

Another ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ redesign? Quel surprise! Has nobody in the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ got anything else to do apart from continually redesign every possible aspect of the organisation? Beats serious journalism, I suppose.

more anti-bbc comments when they were just asking you how they could improve the service, shame on you!

This comment was removed because the moderators found it broke the house rules. Explain.
