Actually, I think a better description of this would be "Amanda Farnsworth totally fails to address criticisms of presenters standing".
Please understand that no matter how hard you try to justify it, it always just looks daft when people stand up to read the news. The sooner this silly fad is over and newsreaders learn how to sit down again, the better.
Religious symbols are causing friction. Would it not be reasonable to use them at religious gatherings and, in the interests of community harmony, avoid using them elsewhere?
This could be agreed by a meeting of the various religious hierarchies. Can you imagine, however, any leaders less likely to compromise and do the sensible thing. They know that their beliefs are right and those of others are wrong.
The wearing of symbols in ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ studios is important enough, but does not approach the importance of the wearing of veils in schools, either as a symbol or otherwise.
The safety of children in school is the first priority.
I cannot think of any reason why a school head or governor should permit any person, who is not immediately identifiable, to walk around a school. I would not send a child of mine to a school where the management thought otherwise.
It shows how far we have gone, in leaning backwards, to even contemplate such a situation.
