³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ in the news, Wednesday

Host Host | 09:27 UK time, Wednesday, 12 July 2006

The Telegraph: "The ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ's top brass yesterday defended the decision to hand its executives record pay rises." ()

The Guardian: "Des Browne, the defence secretary, yesterday accused the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ of endangering the lives of British troops." ()

The Telegraph: "A Labour MP turned the air blue in the Commons as he berated the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ for helping to create Britain's increasingly vulgar culture." ()

Des Browne would be better off spending his time in the Commons chamber taking part in Defence debates (for anyone not aware he missed two in recent weeks) than attacking the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ.

As for putting lives at danger, I don't think it was ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ bosses who sent the troops to Afghanistan, failed to provide sufficient numbers or adequate equipment including properly armoured vehicles.

Had the Taliban been given the same amount of help that we're expending now to root out al-Quaida then there would be no war-on-terror and the twin towers would still be standing. Osama bin Laden would be behind bars and all would have been right with the world.

Des Browne would be better trying to get the 1.65 million unemployed trained as soldiers to help chase terrorists rather than wasting welfare money on them.

A society should be as open as possible - it is the editor's business to help represent the many hues which make up human society. Euphemisms like 'war on terror'help debase intelligent debate. Unless you know something about the 'taleban' mind how will you ever change events,'win hearts and minds'?
