Everyone Loves Kirsty and Phil
Good Morning to one and all! Its all a bit Monday today..Tired, cold and not feeling like there's much to look forward to. But the perfect tonic to Monday Blues....yes Phil and Kirsty from Location, Location, Location and other such offshoots!
Such lovely lovely people..Definitely cheered me up this morning - absolute legends of the property world. If you missed the show and need some advice then listen again - they talk buy to let, first time buying and trying to get a bargain. And of course all about careers in the housing world. There's loads more information at Radio Online too.
Apart from all that chat it turns out we all love them. Dave a bit more than the rest of the team and I can safely say I wasn't the only one feeling slightly uncomfortable with his obsession.
The idea of them both doing a mouth kiss on Dave did not sit well on the porridge at half past 8. Still I think everyone would like them as NBF's and to help sort out all our housing issues!
My main concern is how Dave will be when we have Sir Alan on the show on wednesday. I can't imagine he's into much mouth kissing or even hugs for that manner! Oh well we'll have to wait and see.
I have quite a dull monday ahead now - seem to have an absolute mountain of washing to do, and been trying to get some christmas shopping done - although with a hang over (yesterday's quest) it was not good. I now HAVE to go and get some bulbs too as down to the last one in the bedroom and can't see a thing! Living room and kitchen too - why do they always go all at once?? Think there's some conspiracy theory going on.
Anyway I hope everyone elses Monday's are a bit more exciting!
Lots of love

To be honest I find it quite disgraceful that the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ has actually allowed them to go on a show aimed at young people (like myself) and give 'advice' about the property market, especially considering that they very much have a vested interest in talking the market up, since they both have property portfolios!!!
I could not believe my ears this morning! How can they can get away with giving such bad, irresponsible advice on air! Kirstie even went as far as congratulating a 20 year old lad for not going to uni but getting a job and looking straight at buying a house to rent out, whilst living with his parents. She asked nothing about his financial situation or job security and got straight into blabbing on about how you can't lose with houses. This lad is just about to get into an enormous amount of debt that could potentially bankrupt him and ruin his life and not a single word of warning from Kirsty! Absolute DISGRACE!!!

They are giving completely unregulated financial advice. Before taking any financial decision do not listen to these two or any of the vested interests seek an unbiased second opinin.
The last thing this country needs is more property speculators so encouraging someone not to go to university is disgraceful. Even more encouarging him into potential financial suicide is fatal. I hope when it all goes wrong he sues Kirsty!

Phil owns a "property search" company and so has a vested interest in keeping people buying houses.
They are complete idiots so far as investment is concerned. Fair plays to people who bought buy to let from 1995 to 2002 but if you bought in after that you could be in trouble and anyone buying now needs a new head.
First time buyers shouldn't dream of buying a home for at least 2 more years. You can get great rentals right now.

Every baseless prediction these two muppets have made regarding the state of the property market have turned out to be false. That the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ is giving air time to people with such a blatant self-interest in artificially inflating the property market is a disgrace in itself. For them to be allowed to give such appalling advice to first-time buyers is completely outrageous. The problem is that a casual listener who is not well informed might actually believe that the advice they are hearing is from an expert. The truth is that no expert would advise to buy at a time like this. I hope if anyone does buy a house on the basis of the advice given on this ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ programme, then they will track these two down and sue them in a couple of years time when they are facing financial ruin and that they will also pursue litigation against the producers of this programme.

They are still optimistic when we are into the mother of all recessions. Now is the time to stay well clear of the property market.
Why do the media push these people forward. There is no evidence whatsoever to calling them 'experts'. I'm more of an expert, having sold my house as I new the bubble was bursting.
I would have thought they would keep their heads low at present and for the next few years, as the prices crumble, with no recovery signs for donkeys years.
A lot of people jumped-in having watched the likes of these two, and have been burnt.
And get Alsop to eat her hat. She said she would, now we want to see it.

How about getting hold of a real expert, or someone who is informed and has a bearish stance on the property market, and get them to talk to the same people who received Kirsty and Phil's 'advice' at the same time of the morning on Mr Moyle's show? That would be big and clever of you, so I don't expect you'll listen.

Like you I 'm a bit worried about Dave's antics on this mornings show, oh well! Wednesdays show is going to be interesting! In regard to lightbulb situation you need to get yourself some energysaving lightbulbs they last much longer than ordinary ones(they are a bit more expensive though), but they use less electricity which is better for the environment(think of the polar bears)! I found the information that Kirsty & Phil gave very informative this morning. Though I would much rather rent property than buy one at the moment! The banks are being very choosy who they give mortgages to.

I'm sure you're a loveley person, so please don't take this the wrong way, but information is by definition informative. Joseph Goebbels was informative. Like Goebbels, it would have been better if nobody had ever listened to Kirsty and Phil. The reason the banks are choosy about who they lend to is because they lent money to people that Kirsty and Phil persuaded to buy houses by mistake and now the banks can't get their money back.
Was this the banks fault? Yes. Was it the fault of those who stupidly listened to Phil and Kirsty? Yes. Was it the fault of various media for broadcasting Kirsty and Phil? Yes. The fact remains that if Kirsty was an honourable woman she would have eaten her hat by now. If you didn't know, she promised to eat her hat if property prices fell in this Country. As far as i am aware, no such event has taken place to date.

As someone above pointed out, Kirsty Allsop said that she would eat her hat if UK property prices came down. Both herself and Phil have so much vested interest in this industry that they have to encourage young people to buy property.
As a Radio 1 listener, do they really care if I bought a property tomorrow and in a year's time it had lost 20% of its value? Are they really looking after my best interests by encouraging me to buy? In a word, nope.
As a young person myself who, until the beginning of this year, was preparing to buy a place I would not dream of buying a property either this year, next year or the one after.
I've done my research and apparently housing slumps take many years to recover. The last crash prices dropped and then stayed the same for six years. There is no rush to buy because prices are going nowhere but down.
So Radio 1, and the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ in particular, please do not insult your young listeners by featuring these two vested interests who are partly responsible for the mess we're in at the moment. "Knock a wall down and it will add 10 grand to your property".
May I suggest inviting MoneyWeek editor, Merryn Somerset-Webb, on your show to tell you and your listeners what is REALLY going on in the housing market in the UK and around the world.
Absolute joke guys.

People read too much into media reports anyway I'm sure. Anyway Carrie, thanks for the blog, hope you got your washing done!

Careeres week! So why did Kirsty congratulate a 20 year old on not going to University. Some careers advice that is.
"If you've got the money then buy a house!!! Why not? It's better to buy if you can than rent."
How can I put this? No it most certainly is not. All you are doing is demonstrating your ignorance. Most people don't have money to buy a house - they get loans from banks which are called mortgages. If you pay too much for your house, you end up spending more of your earnings than you should over a very long period of time and if you buy now, your house will be worth less for probably around 10 to 15 years from the present date. If you owe more money than you can sell your house for you will be stuck in it because the bank will not let you move. At the moment the money you will spend renting a house is far less than the amount of value the same house is losing in the same time period. It is very clearly better to rent at the moment and when prices have dropped significantly it will be better to buy. We aren't close to reaching that point yet.
This is not rocket science - it is straightforward - and you do not seem to have the slightest idea about it.
People reading too much into media reports? Do you really think that all those people who have written on this thing are less informed than yourself?? I can tell you with absolute certainty that they are not. They have not picked up their opinions from media reports, but have experience of previous crashes in the property market and have studied the overwhelming evidence. If you would like me to point you in the direction of this evidence i am happy to do so.

WHY is the question, on primetime radio, for the younger generation, did this pair of Z-list property people get allowed on? Stick em on Edith or Sara for heavens sake!
Them two from The One Show were bad enough.
Talking about what celebrities you'd prefer in the jungle was one thing, imagine if Phil and whatsherface were in the jungle? Yep you'd be complaining, so now you know how we feel!
That said, I am looking forward to Sir Alan Buggar and 'I like it' Louis Walsh!

Quite. If you're going to have people on advising the younger generation about things such as house-buying why did you choose z-list celebrities? That's all Phil and Kirsty are - celebrities. They are not experts and should not be giving out such appalling advice. And why patronise your audience in such a way - surely they're not as ill-educated as these two.
Buying a house is probably the most significant financial transaction that most people will take in their lives. Bad advice leads to misery. If a couple of con-men turned up at the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ without qualifications, saying they wanted to go on air to tell everyone that they should be investing £200,000 in a pyramid scheme, I would hope you would tell them where to go. That is in effect what Phil and Kirsty were doing. So why did you allow it?

I initially thought that the concept of planting the latest Radio 1 "Issue de Jour" (ie careers advice) in the Moyles show was actually the problem - but the whole Alan Sugar show, including his interview itself, was brilliant. So it was just that Kirsty and Phil were totally wrong for the show, because their interview was absolutely rubbish radio (although the show had been great up to the point they arrived).
The fact that the content of Kirsty and Phil's advice was at best questionable was a secondary issue for me (being of sound mind and reasonable intelligence I knew better than to listen to it anyway), all I wanted was to hear a great radio show in the morning like I usually do, and it was the sabotaging of this end that I objected to.
