Aled

Welcome to the new Chris Moyles Show blog!

I'm Aled, Chris' Day Producer and more than likely the one that will be posting the most on here (because I'm a bit of geek!), saying that though the whole team have promised to post on here as often as possible for the duration of the World Cup. What will we be getting up to? What stuff couldnl't we talk about on air? Who got on each other's nerves? I suspect this will be where all that comes out as we use this blog as a bit of a Germany diary room.

For those who don't know the show that well (where've you been?) I'm Chris' Day Producer (I produce when the show's not on-air... go figure!), Rachel's the Show Producer, Comedy Dave is the Director of Comedy, Carrie is our Sport lady, Jocelin the Assistant Producer (who does pretty much everything that Rachel and I don't want to do), Rhys is our Executive Producer (who tends to shout "play a record" in the background), Matt Off-of-the-website he's the one responsible for the drunken photos on the mini site, and Dom is our news diva who unfortunately won't be coming to Germany with us (just don't talk to him about it as he gets very upset).

Right now, I'm sat in the office at Radio 1 HQ, Jocelin is front of me ripping her hair out drowning in paper with all our Germany flight details, show features, match lists and statistics ready to be made into our Germany guides. I'm busily researching all the countries taking part in the World cup getting some new "Aled's Guides..." together to help all you football novices out there.

The truck has just left us with all our show equipment and a few personal items (Rhys' guitar - great!, and Carrie's Golf Clubs (she does work hard though)) and is making it's 3 day journey to Germany.

Right, that's it. Polite, official first blog over... 4 shows to go before the fun begins.

The songs' lyrics are very much tounge and cheek, some playful cockney rhythming slang. It's definetely not trying to be misogynist.

Here's a little explanation:

The Hampton Cobblers 鈥 Thrupenny Bits

Two weeks ago a group of friends decided to combine their musical talents and form a band called The Hampton Cobblers.

Having listened to numerous World Cup songs, they quickly decided that none of the songs seemed to have the passion and punch they thought was called for.

The objective was simple: write an original, cheeky and addictive punk rock song for the World Cup.

With the task in hand, the song was written, rehearsed and recorded in four days flat. As well as the five main members of the band, various non-musical friends were drafted in 鈥 later to be called the 鈥淥i Oi鈥檚鈥 鈥 to add some inspired backing vocals!!!

鈥nd so Thrupenny Bits was born, a tongue and cheek song about the fun and frolics enjoyed by footballs supporters leading up to the big game. Always intended as a bit of a giggle, they hope the song will put a smile on the face of football fans and music lovers alike.

How odd that song is. I'm sure the first two lines weren't meant to carry all the tragic misogyny of Tom Waits' Frank's Wild Years . . .

Hi Aled,

Just wondering if you listened to our World cup song, which is cheekily called Thrupenny Bits? Could you let me know please, it'll save me getting up early to send texts each morning :0)

Our band is called 'The Hampton Cobblers' and you can listen to thrupenny Bits at www.thehamptoncobblers.com

Feel free to use it any way you wish.

Many thanks,

Today, after the games of England VS Jamaica [Congrats] and Czech Republic VS Trinidad & Tobago, we are now accelerating in the World Cup.

"Republica Deportiva" [Sport Republic] [a sports program on Univision [The US Latin TV Station]] just innaugurated their transmissions of the World Cup 2006 from Munich Germany. I also received two World Cup Magazines, I have hanged some Mini World Cup Posters of the US Football Team and some stores are hanging Shirts of the Participating Countries in the World Cup.

The Latin Football Anthem "Arriba Arriba" [Upward Upward] by Mexican Sensations [in song] Mariana Seoane, Ana Barbara, Pablo Montero with Dominican Sensation [in song] Anais is being played in many areas of Miami Florida.

This blogger is one of the only supporters in his area of Miami [where the Cuban and Spanish Community are]. Regardless, I discuss football with my football family all ober the world and I am enjoying the fun.

As a fan hidden away in Adelaide -South Australia, where people think that football is a game played by men with egg-shaped balls, I tried to get them thinking about the 'beautiful game' by writing a song called 'Here Come the Socceroos'. Sadly a lot of Ozzies didn't get it and now it's on the B side of a CD called 'Green and Gold' by Freedom of Thought. I'd be grateful if you could play it at least to commemorate a great effort by me and me mates. Here's to the Aussie charm against Japan, Croatia and BRAZIL (errr, that's gonna be a tough one). We'll meet England in the Final eh? Just you wait and see.

Hi Aled,

I was just thinking as you don't like football and don't really want to be in Germany we could do a job swap for a month! It would work for both of us cos i'm just a work-shy student, so you get to have a rest and i get to watch the World Cup.

I don't have much radio experience, although i had planned to do a week's work experience at a hospital radio station once (but no one was ever there!). Anyway i'll get Joce to do all the hard stuff. So what do you think??? Pleease! :D

And you can't tell me that Chris is going to be nice about it, I suppose he's just not that way inclined... It's a stupid question but is Carrie going? I know she is a Sports Reporter but if she is going it's just rubbing slightly more salt, maybe with a bit of vinegar, than usual in the wound. It's a lonely world out there in those studios...
