The Olympic Park This Morning...

Chris Evans | 12:36 UK time, Monday, 30 July 2012

...was bathed in sunshine, which meant a chilly cloudless start but it was baking by the time we came off the air at ten.

It's really quite strange leaving Stratford every morning as the rest of the world homes in on there.

This Olympics already feels like a holiday you don't want to end. Although we're only on Day Three, you just know it's going to be over in a heartbeat. Like a kid's childhood, we all have to make the most of such things, because when they're gone they ain't never coming back.

Dive in and dig deep my friends. And the same goes for Tom Daley and Pete Waterfield this afternoon in the Men's 10m Synchronised Diving.

Rock on London 2012, we love and adore you.

Peace and Love

    Hello Chris & Everyone

I'm having trouble signing in bt got here in the end. I saw three blogs but now there's only one and it says 'be the first to comment'. Have Lin & Berni now disappeared?

Anyway, I hope all is well in the land of the Olympics Chris. It must feel strange to be leaving each morning when everyone else is going in but you are so lucky to be there. I have my red button retuned and watching now and then.

Am I now first on the fourth blog or last on the first blog?

Chris, glad you had a good time this morning!

Think the blog is getting all confused with the changes though!

When I looked a little while ago there were three copies of the same blog and Girltarist and (now a test of my memory) Berni (?) took Gold and Silver in the daily posting stakes!

Now it's all gone and I am here but for how long?

    Baggy, Enjoy the tennis!

Did you know, there are tickets for the wheelchair basketball for only £15? Sounds like a good deal to me!

Off to see this mornings photos

And while I've still got the radio ranty pants from the last blog, if my children had spoken to me like the kids on the advert for the weather service thats being played at the moment, anything I had planned for the holidays would have been cancelled - toot sweets!!!!

If this is meant to encourage parents to use the service, I'm not sure they're hitting the mark!

Right, home again home again jiggety jig!

Hi Chris: great to see your blog today - I can imagine - you, and all the team, are having the time of your lives. And, yes, it will all be over in a flash, so enjoy every single moment. You are all doing such a fantastic job - I really felt I was in the Village this morning - loving it, just loving it.

Sezza: sounds like you and the Sezza Household had an amazing day yesterday - how wonderful. xx

Baggy: have a great time at the tennis - I'm a little envious, it must be said.

Maddy: nice to see you - I did wonder where you were. xx

Sezza: thought I would check out Mary's mention about getting her CarFest ticket last week ... how absolutely lovely that Chris said "morning, MwK" - he never forgets her blog name!

Mary: Chris never forgets your blog name! xx

Well, I just have to get through this week, and I have a fortnight off. Unfortunately we had to cancel our holiday and change all our arrangements due to MrS's foot issues, but it will just be lovely to not have to get up at 6.30am to go to work! Having said that, I will be listening to every minute of Chris next week - I can have a lie-in the following week! And, I'll get to see quite a lot of the Olympics - it just worked out this way, totally unplanned!

    Happy remainder of Monday!

Heard some of the fab show this morning but missed Mary's mention. Anyone know when it was?

Chrissie - enjoy your holiday at home, you can listen in your pjs!

SB, I thought the signing choir was just lovely. Have these people not heard of equality and discrimination?

Sezza, sounds like you all had a wonderful day.

Hi Annie: just thought I would have a quick look at the blog before heading off to deal with the mail. Just to let you know, it was actually last Wednesday when Mary got her lovely wee mention - she had just got her CarFest ticket, and sent Chris a text. I listened to it yesterday, and can tell you it was on Wednesday, 25th at just coming up for 1hour, 45mins into the show. It's very cute, so I hope you get to hear it!

Have a nice evening, CE Bloggers!

Night Greetings Ter CLP & ALL Bloggies...

    Bingo Star 'ere...

CLP & ALL - Soz ter be blogging so late.... Or VERY early depending on which angle of the situation yer wanter look at my situation.... My situation being blogging in the middle of the night.... Noot that it is EXACTLY the middle of the night.... But close enough ter be called the middle of the night although it isn't the middle.... EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Where was a?????
    Oh I yeah.....

STRATFORD brings back strong memories of when a once struck gold in Stratford aged 14!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Basically a 'eard on the rail enthusiast's grapevine that the VERY latest prototype locomotive was being stored at the now closed BR Stratford locomotive train depot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So a decided ter take the situation ter 'and by breaking inter the depot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe the very site where the Olympic Stadium now stands (A notice railway lines run right next ter the stadium)
Noot with a crowbar..... A banged on me orange 'igh-viz vest and marched inter the depot like a was on important business.... and beleive me a did mean business!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A walked the vast engine and carriage sheds.... Seeing the amazing sight of trains up on jacks with no wheels..... Locomotives with their giant engines lifted out.... some crash damaged locos... Maybe never ter roll on a rail again..... Some being re-painted..... and then there it was gleaming..... The newest locomotive on the whole BR system.....
Prototype 89001..... A 125mph electric monster..... Designed ter replace the ageing diesel Intercity125 trains that run from London ter Edinburgh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    A 'ad struck gold!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe the first ever member of the public ter see this brand new prototype!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A quickly took as many photos as a could before bailing out before a got clocked by security!!!!!!!!!!!

The locomotive was even named by Margret Thatcher 3 years later as it was the pride of BR.... So who better but the PM ter name it/ chrisen it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sadly it was the only one ever made as BR shelved the idea ter build the faster 140mph class 91 electric locos that now run from Kings Cross ter Leeds and Edinburgh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The crazy thing is the line was never upgraded as intended so ter this day the 140mph trains run still at 125mph.... The same as the Intercity125's..... And the diesel IC125's still run all the way from Kings Cross ter Edinburgh..... Even though the 400miles from London ter Edinburgh is electrfied!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

'ope a 'ave not sent any ter sleep yet..... An alternative ter counting sheep..... Count trains instead!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

While am on the subject of success around Stratford.....

It was fine ter see Lizzie Armitstead call an armstice on the doubting press by coming so so so close ter winnign a gold in the women's cycling road race (nearly a photo finish)..... she claimed an amazing silver medal all while competing as number 22!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    A like!

ALL the above very much..... 100% TRUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For fairness and balance in this Olympic season, these are my posts that were eliminated yesterday!

"And in true Olympic styl-eeeee, you have posted the same thing three (equal) times so the first reply on each one will win Gold, Silver or Bronze - genius idea! ;~) Can the medal-winners join you one morning on your Olympic Holiday?? Hope I get on the podium - who's with me??

    Gold medal winner - GirltaristHan!! :~) "

    Morning All,

Grey and dull here too today, never mind it can't be sunny all the time!

Sezza, I am so jealous of your day at the Olympics, sounds like you had a fantastic time. I regret not fighting harder to get tickets now, still thank goodness I've got a gazillion channels on my tv to watch it on :) xx

I must admit that yesterday I was getting withdrawal symptoms during the day, having spent most of the weekend in front of the telly. But I made up for it last night, catching up on what had been going on during the day. I quite got into the equestrian. That's the good thing about the Olympics it makes you watch sports that you perhaps wouldn't normally watch.

Bingo, My brother was a train spotter and spent many happy hours at Stratford xx

    Hope everyone is well.

    Go Team GB

    Hi:

A really lovely day here in Glasgow - amazing! One of those days when you wish you could stay home, get all the washing done, and out on the line. I bet when I am off on holiday, it will rain every day - knowing my luck!

Annie: re: Mary - oh yes, she was very chuffed!

Bingo: enjoyed your post - you do love your trains!

Berni: how frustrating for you and Han - I didn't see the other blogs - wonder what happened?!

    Happy Tuesday!

    Hi Chris

Re the great achievement by Team GB gymnasts. I keep hearing that there has not been any british team medallists for 100 years. This is incorrect as my grandfather won a team bronze medal for gymnastics in Amsterdam in 1928. I have the medal and photo as proof but this amazing achievement 84 years ago doesnt seem to have been recorded. I was a torch bearer and appeared on the One Show with you at Culdrose.

  • Comment number 26.

Hi AliB: no television for me - work, work and thrice work! I am keeping a wee sneaky look on proceedings, however!

    Cheryl: sounds exciting!

Oh goody, more work has just arrived ...

Invoicing done - Chrissie, kind of exciting in so much as it's my own invoicing these days but I'm still a total dunderbrain where figures are concerned, so have to be extremely careful - check, check and treble check the numbers before sending to clients!

    I can't believe it's August tomorrow - where is 2012 going?

We're off to see some Olympic Football tomorrow at The City Of Coventry Stadium. I'll report back on Thursday, provided we both survive the crowds, the queues and well, the price of a burger!

Have a very Happy Hump Day - I may pop in on the morn if time allows.

    Muchos Olympic Amore,

ps: If you've not watched it yet, I can highly recommend Handball. It's quite roughty-toughty, a sort ofd cross/hibrid of netball, basketball, touche ball and five a side football. Fast, tetchy, loads of goals ...... all in all, top draw!

    Hello there,

Am just loving the Olympic games, I dont think I have watched so much TV.... ever .
After staying up late to watch the opening ceremony on Friday night, I had to have a nap on Saturday afternoon, to recharge my batteries . One late night and I am useless ........ what a lightweight ! I am enjoying watching all the sports, and feel like a lardy couch potato compared to these fit honed people gracing my tv screen .
Fingers crossed we collect a few more medals along the way.
    Bye for now

Hi all I'm really enjoying the Olympics, loved the equestrian earlier on and well done team GB

Deevs, is it The Ricoh stadium you're going to tomorrow? My son Dan's a Coventry City supporte for his sins and he always said that the pies were very good. I love the handball too, my son David's friend plays for the GB team so look out for Mark Hawkins.

Chrissie take your foot off the pedal and slow down!

Sarah what a fantastic achievement for your grandfather, thanks for telling us about it. I hope we finally strike gold tomorrow so COME ON TEAM GB!!!
