Cold today and getting colder tomorrow...

Chris Evans | 13:16 UK time, Tuesday, 31 January 2012

...It's at times like this we should have a national school television channel that all the little loves can turn to, to save them having to go outdoors. I know childcare would be an issue but hey, I've come up with the first part of the plan, someone else will have to figure out the rest. Crisis equals problem, problem requires solution ergo an opportunity is suddenly upon us.

Pefect story-writing weather, I reckon. 500 Words continues. Rock on people !

Kirsty Young washed up on our shore today...

Chris Evans | 11:49 UK time, Friday, 27 January 2012

...and brought with her tales of Desert Island Discs, seventy years old this week.

Sir David Attenborough is The Island's anniversary guest on Sunday at 11.15am, sure to be riveting. And what of the other three and a half thousand shipwreckees that have experienced a similar fate ? Well, you can hear five hundred of them again via the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Radio website. I'm going there right now to see if David Hockney's is one of them. I know for definite he's been on !

Oh no, I've just remembered, I have to go to The One Show. I'll do it later instead or tomorrow perhaps.

Keep smiling friendlies. We do it all again on the wireless, Monday at half six. Bring on 500 Words 2012 !!!

Thursdays say goodbye to Jan 2012 today...

Chris Evans | 10:07 UK time, Thursday, 26 January 2012

..So long my friends, you've served us well. We'll see you again in eleven and a bit months' time with tales of The Olympics, The Diamond Jubilee and who knows what else ?

It's almost the end of Andy's first week as main producer of The Breakfast Show and I have to say he's the man. Excellent work old bean, especially the digging up of a rival pizza lyric to Jessie J's 'Domino', in the form of Talking Heads' Pizza Hut reference from their track Nothing But Flowers. Now that's good knowledge. Hopefully he'll be here for a while with more !

Kirsty Young for brekkie tomorrow. It's a tough job but . . . Well you know.

Live Chris Isaak "borrowed" from Simon's show today...

Chris Evans | 10:07 UK time, Wednesday, 25 January 2012

Listen again to his beautifully laconic interview with the man himself from yesterday via our website or the iPlayer. The man is clearly a chief dude.

Catch up on Chris Isaak with Simon here

Also today - lots of bagpipes and Burns talk this a.m. which I enjoyed immensely. I have never been to a Burns Supper but I will next year. I can't go to one today because I'm attending my big mate John Morgan's fiftieth birthday lunch. I may not even see any of this evening if the usual rules apply and times a few because it's his big one.

Wish me luck, Morgs and his mates have plenty to soak up whatever it is we end up imbibing today, with their six foot sevens plus to my six foot two. Plus they don't have to be up to host a radio show tomorrow morning.

There may be a sneaky exit on the cards circa five - ish.

Woah ! Top Gobsmackers this morning...

Chris Evans | 09:05 UK time, Tuesday, 24 January 2012

...The Look 'I Am The Beat' and 'Mirror In The Bathroom' by The Beat. Excellent songs and a groovy link.

In other news, I played an unsigned female artist by the name of Phoebe Ray and the reaction to her song 'Enigma' was 100% positive. Hope The Colonel was listening. He's a renowned industry figure who had a hand in signing U2. And yes, he was a real Colonel before getting hip and happening in the music industry.

Best for the day y'all.

The Queen for Desert Island Discs...

Chris Evans | 09:38 UK time, Monday, 23 January 2012

What do you think, pray tell ? It would be fascinating. I want to hear her choice of music more than anything else. We can only hope. Far more realistic would be my good friend and colleague Moira Stuart. Can't believe they've not done her already. We need to have words and we will ! Kirsty, The Island's current host, will be joining us for Brekkie on Friday.

But one more shout out. The Queen's sixtieth (jubilee) DIDs seventieth. Pleeeeease !

Sir Patrick - what a guy ?

Chris Evans | 16:39 UK time, Friday, 20 January 2012

Seventy one by the way ! I'm forty five and don't look half as good as him now. Fit as a fiddle and ,beautifully, a bit mad. Just the right amount I'd say. Enough to keep the bad things at bay.

And he wants a job. But only big telly or movies - so if you know of anyone...

One Show tonight and then home.

You ?

Whatever it is - have a good 'un.

Alright, Lord God The Almighty...

Chris Evans | 10:12 UK time, Thursday, 19 January 2012

...Can we please stop it now with the grey backdrop? We know that if we boarded a plane, in less than a minute we would be through the clouds and into the blue. Can't you give us a break and tear open a sky window please?

Just a thought.

And now - off home to watch everything Sir Patrick Stewart's ever been in, in preparation for him joining us for brekkie on the show tomorrow.

Peace and Love.

Eastern Bloc weather here today...

Chris Evans | 10:06 UK time, Wednesday, 18 January 2012

Greyer than concrete, or spot the join where the sky ends and the buildings begin. And so a day of sorting has been declared whilst we wait for Mr Sunshine to wear his hat once again on the side of his head.

Woke up thinking about dinner. Still thinking about it now, despite several diversionary cups of herbal tea. No matter how distant I can always smell the good things in life. And why not ? So that's it then, decided, this afternoon around three - ish, it will be time to slam in the lamb.

Arrrgggghhh.

I cannot wait.

Stargazing Live !

Chris Evans | 09:56 UK time, Tuesday, 17 January 2012

A good reason to get cold. And lots of us have been as a result. And we can again tonight - ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ2 from 8.00pm. That was us but even later last night. We were well and truly Sherlocked before that. My goodness, what a series finale that was. I can only presume that the episode in question was not available to The Golden Globe givers. It has to have been the best thing on telly in the last year. Moriarty and Holmes' roof-top two-hander - just genius. I shall say no more just in case you haven't seen it yet. I n fact stop reading this NOW and go to the i Player to watch it immediately.

My goodness, another stellar day...

Chris Evans | 10:22 UK time, Monday, 16 January 2012

...And what a night for "Star Gazing Live" tonight is gonna be. ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ2 - don't miss it! I'm off to spend the day on a mate's farm, but I shall make it home for that and no mistake. Would also LOVE to catch up with last night's Sherlock tonight. But that might be pushing it all a bit.

Listen now. You have a fantastic day. And don't forget to wear a hat, it's bloomin' freezin' there; beautiful but nippy all the way through to your unmentionables.

Peace and Love and Hot Soup.

Heston and Bear. Bear and Heston.

Chris Evans | 14:39 UK time, Friday, 13 January 2012

A double delight on The Breakfast Show this morning. And a new series for television born on the air. I'll Catch It (Bear) You Cook It (Heston). Now that's smells like a hit to me. If it happens and it is, they have promised to dedicate it to Joe Schmo who leaves us today for a tour of duty on Drive Time. We love you Joe.

First week back this week and so the first weekend. The One Show tonight with Martin Freeman and Ray Winstone and then the first Friday meal of the year with Tash. We love our Fridays !

See you on the radio on Monday.

Show. ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ. Housework...

Chris Evans | 11:14 UK time, Thursday, 12 January 2012

Housework, not around the house. But on the house. There are plans you see. It's a new year and it's all very exciting. And why the heck not ? Beth, our German Shepherd, is in charge of most of the big decisions, with Noah her deputy. Tash comes next and then it's me - I think.

Right, off to receive my orders.

Actually there is talk of a mackerel omelette first. Whoopee !

Chris Evans | 11:04 UK time, Wednesday, 11 January 2012

...Life! Of course. Reverend Ruth proclaimed it so this very morning on 't radio show. Birth date, deceased date. And the piddly little hyphen in the middle, so understated. That IS life.

Enjoy your hyphen today !

Owning The Thing...

Chris Evans | 05:19 UK time, Wednesday, 11 January 2012

... but not The Thing it was for proved to be a revelation this morning on the wireless. I used to do it as a kid all the time. I used to buy things from second hand shops and jumble sales that might have just something to do with what I really wanted, in the hope that one day they would somehow lead me there. I remember even buying a hand sausage mincer with the intention of turning it into a propelling device for the dinghy my mum wouldn't let me have. Currently.

Wonderful.

I may even still have it. Off to check !

Here Come The Olympics. Ken For King Of Scotland. And The Mili Wives World Tour.

Chris Evans | 10:31 UK time, Monday, 9 January 2012

Just another day at the office.

Or studio to be more precise.

Had trouble scanning the papers today, as I have been actually reading them for the past fortnight, so I kept getting more absorbed in certain articles than I had time for.

Right, we've buckled up for our next run until April.

All aboard who are staying aboard!
