Show In A Field Reunited

Chris Evans | 13:18 UK time, Thursday, 4 November 2010

Eight dudes from our Show In The Field came to see us today. They won Jonny's quiz which meant they could come spend a morning in our so called esteemed company. Not so sure about that but they seemed to more than enjoy themselves regardless.

Getting out and meeting our audience is so beneficial all round and we will continue to find as many excuses as we are allowed to do it. So listen out for Children In Need in two weeks' time when more listeners than ever before will have a chance to join us on this year's Breakfast Show Dine and Disco escapade. Watch this space and I suspect you will not be disappointed.

WooHoo! 2 weeks to CiN and I am already hyper excited! Really looking forward to coming to R2 and doing my bit with the other lovely bloggers form here and over the fence of Mayo land.

As for the name change, why not??!

Hurrah count me in for THAT Christoff... Am fine wit the Dinin' bit; although am the Ann Widdecombe of the Disco. Am still smartin' from the brother-outlaw cruelly tellin' me I danced like Douglas Bader after reducin' the rugby club keilidh to carnage. Huh.

More a case of Murder On The Dancefloor than Disco Inferno then Clodagh!?!

I'm very excited too Deevs - I'm actually counting down.

Just need to get my copy of Memoirs of A Fruitcake just in case I should bump in to CLP!

  • Comment number 6.

Deffo, Deevs. Disco Interned-O. Mind. Yous wanta see my moves to Disco Tex an' 'is Sex-O-Lets after a couple a voddies an' a chip butty.

As for Michael Fatley the brother-outlaw, 'e can talk. Last time 'e hit the dance-floor 'e looked like 'e was threshin' corn whilst tryin' to attract the coast-guard, cheeky so-an-so.

    Huh.

Oh to have some cash to splash on the wine n dine. Might win the lottery between now and then though so watch out :-D

    Steve :-D

  • Comment number 8.

In fact. As I think about it, I've a rather stunning photo of myself an' the said brother-outlaw on Burns Night, mid-reel. An' rather fetchin' 'e looked in the sister's pleated tartan skirt wit 'is fluffy hot-water bottle sporran, meself over 'is shoulder wit me knickers on full view. I might dig it out an' give it to the GD as a warning about the perils of mixin' strong booze an' vanity whilst in the company of eejits.

Certainly, Deevs. An' I'll show yous how to dance disgracefully too if you want. Plus how to ice-skate like a stranded black beetle.

Hi Chris: There is no doubt that whatever you are going to propose re: Dine and Disco will be fair, and quite brilliant! You have taken on board that not everyone can pledge vast amounts to CiN (as much as we would love to), and I just know you are coming up with a cracking idea!

Also, Chris, it was great this morning to hear the people who won Jonny's quiz. I think the fact that you - and the team - really connect with your public will stand you all in good stead for a very long time to come!

Hope everyone else is well ... hectic times at work!

Sentiments Of Warmth & Kindness From Me To You.... (Me Being Bingo Star, You Being CLP & ALL Reading This)...

    Bingo Star 'ere...

CLP - Sounds most nice CLP, most nice... Being a listener am always up for meeting yersen or ANY of the R2 team... in fact a can pop down ter Western 'ouse in the morning if yer want!!!!!!!!!

As for the Children In Need, sounds exciting!!!!!!
A still 'ave not got over being lucky enough ter go to the CIN Wrocks The Royal Albert 'all gig last year!!!!!!!
Am never normally lucky enough ter get such tickets but that time a managed ter get through!!!!!!!!!!!
    It's a gig a will never forget!!!!!!!!!!!

PS A was at the Albert 'all 3 weeks ago... Went ter see A-Ha perform with the Norway National Orchestra - really great gig it was!!!!!!!!!!

PPS On traffic lights yesterday... Penny Forem a fully agree about when yer see lights not working normally all is friendly & yer sail through!!!!!!!
In fact this very thing 'appened ter me 2 'ours ago.... A FULL set was off & all was clear.... And a did nearly literally sail through as we are experiencing VERY 'eavy rain 'ere in Lancashire where a am right now!!!!!!!

A do feel a little guilty though about being so 'ard on traffic lights yesterday... One thing a like about traffic lights is the way they flash different colours... It reminds me of being a radio DJ: Green for off air; Amber for 1 minute ter the padlock is taken off the mixer; Red - LLLIVE ON AIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My goodness am getting excited now just at the thought of what it must be like ter work at the beeb radio!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Bye!

PPS A see Arsenal got beat last night by The Donestsk team from Ukraine!!!
Further to me blog yesterday, looks like aswell as our multi-million pound traffic lights not performing as efficiently as the one's in Ukraine the same applies to our footy teams!!!!!!!!!

A tell yer ave been very impressed by Ukraine, they really are an up & coming country!!!!!!!!!!

    Bye again!

PS No offence ter Arsenal fans... me fav team LFC are doing even worse!!!!!

Talking of Ice skating (cheers Clodagh)

There used to be a rink at Queensway (west london) that me an me mates used to congregate at. I put the skates on and got up some serious speed (could have competed for GB in winter olympic speed trials) well anyway we had a break and then got back on. I was giving it plenty (could do very gentle turns so just used to stick to the outside of the rink round) well anyway as i was saying i was giving it plenty and still going faster when suddenly the crowd moved left and i could see lots of empty space in front of me, it was then that i looked down and saw a rope across the rink so the kids had somewhere safe to skate. Yes i hit the rope with the force of elephant charging a rice paper screen. bare in mind that there was about 20yds of "open" rink in front of me before the barrier and the seats. i hit rope and went backside over boob and then proceeded to slide until i hit the barrier with a huge thud. It was around this point that i realised i had fractured my wrist and nye on broke both shins in process. It was all my mates could not to laugh. I have never been skating since. :(

I've just remembered a couple of things:

Pen: our wee chat yesterday re: ice. Our internet went down for ages yesterday, and I couldn't get back to you. Must have been a nightmare for you with your fall. xx This is the very reason why I prefer rain!

Annie: you were saying about not being thanked for gifts. One of my friends, who I have know for endless years, has never onced thanked me for any gift! I just cannot get it right, no matter what, so I know how you feel. She will say (not meaning it) "ooh, that's lovely" or whatever - but never, ever, "thank you". Makes me seethe!!

    Wotcha Scoobs!

Steve: nice to see that you a "batting" on same side as Beez!

    C xx

  • Comment number 18.

Hahahahaha Steve I think yous an' me could be a match made in heaven. Orville an' Queen, hurrah. What wit yourself an' your Eddie the Eagle trick an' my rather spectacular triple salko, marvellous. Oh how I've fantasised about bein' an ice-skater, flirtin' round in me twizzy frock, wit some poor chap trowin' me up over 'is head an' catchin' me in a clinch, excellent. Or is it just am any excuse to flash me sparkly knickers. Hmm.

Any road. Talkin' of the broken wrist, Renee's sat 'ere wit her wrist in a splint; fell over in 'er bedroom tryin' to get to the phone an' wallop. One broken wrist an' a nice purple plaster cast. Now, don't worry, she's bein' stoic about it. Or at least she was till she discovered she can't open a tin a pilchards wit one hand. Now she's RAGIN'.

    Hello CLP & Everyone.

Windy and wet here in Wirral.

I did have my umbrella but it was inside out most of the time and if I put my hood up I can't see where I am going. I need one of those scooter canopies and then I'll be laughing. If I don't take off in a gust of wind!

I've never ice skated Steve but you should have seen me on the roller skating rink at New Brighton before they took it away. And the steep hills down to the prom. Eat your heart out Jayne Torville!

Hope those involved have a great time at the CIN do, it is good the way Chris gets the listeners involved.

Afternoon each, although it looks like the middle of the night out there.

Maybe we need a syndicate to get on the Dine n Drive?

Well, back from Dunkeld where Duncan Chisolm was not playing. Don't know why I thought he was - I obviously wasn't listening to Kirstie when she told me who we were going to see! However, it was Aly Bain with friends Ale Moller from Sweden and Bruce Molsky from America. And it was fabby, they're all masters of their music and it was a great, foot-tapping night.

Off to Pitlochry again tomorrow to sit on the song bus and listen to more fab musicians while driving round Perthshire.

Well done Baggy and it sounds like Deevs is sorted too. Great news.

Clodagh - you and me on the Dancefloor - we'd be John Revolting and Olivia Neutron Bomb!!!! And as for ice skating - the last I did was as a child at Crossmyloof ice rink. Now there's a name to conjur with.

    xxxxx

  • Comment number 34.

Annie I fear it'd be more Hylda Baker an' Arthur Mullard. Mind, I reckon we could do a mean Paso Doble. I'll be the chap if yous like, wit the rose clenched in the mazzard; yous can 'ave the twizzy red frock an' matchin' sparky knickers.

Oh God Clodagh, that leaves me as Hylda Baker!!!!! I'll have nightmares now. Sparky knickers - now that leaves me speechless.

Chrissie will know about Crossmyloof - it's in Glasgow. I went there on a tram with my cousins - how bloomin' old am I??

    xxxxx

  • Comment number 37.

Ooo hahaha sparky knickers, by the crin. Mind, if, like meself, yous'd spent the early '70s sleepin' in Renee's purple nylon bedsheets, sparky knickers'd be par for the course for you as well. I swear, the days I leapt outa the scratcher a bit too sharpish an' arrived at school wit hair like Jedward an' cracklin' like an electric eel from the static.. no wonder I was popular durin' a power-cut.

    Pudsey t-shirt check
    Pudsey ears check
    Spotty wristband check

All delivered today from the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ shop (other outlets are available)

yep that means I'm ready to go - only 2 weeks now........

I used to go on ice skating trips with the 6th form (I was in the 4th but my boyfriend was in the 6th). I used to do a few steps holding on to the side (scared of falling over) then adjourned to the bar for the rest of the trip.....

Tad breezy here too. Winter is definitely settling in. I have the urge to curl up in a ball under the duvet and hibernate. Maybe that's a knock on effect from last night's late night. Managed to not wake up at 4am or 6am this morning, most likely due to the fact it was gone 1am before I got to bed... However, I don't intend repeating this trick just yet!

Richmond ice rink was the place to be when I was a whippersnapper, sadly no longer there. But we do have an olympic size rink in the Guildford Spectrum, just up the road, but I am far too old to even contemplate donning a pair of ice skates!

    Pen xx

  • Comment number 54.

I was most taken with the hockey players on the "other rink" on Sunday, but blimey, what a violent game!!

MTF, for when you are about, there are 2 rinks at Queensferry now, am assuming the one you used to use is now the practice rink for "Flint Freeze"!!

The one the girls went on was opened in the 90's and has a grandstand (of sorts) for spectators, which is closed unless there is a match on - we had to stand and freeze!

Bums Annie - I'll be Edinburgh for work on 25th but probably won't have time for a meet by the chocolate tent!!

If it's a cheeky little white Seza then I wouldn't mind a small glass - just to keep you company you understand.

Whoohoo Baggy well done you - they can't keep a good saggy old cloth cat down and only 5 miles from home - you won't know yourself. Bet they love you so much they will give you more than just next March xx

Seza: he's aware it's thirsty work, and must be followed by a trip to the pub :) Anytime you're up this way he's more than welcome to bag a tower or two :)

Am off soon folks. Have to be up early to get to Pitlochry for 11. That would be a good venue for an oot and aboot for Chris - Pitlochry Festival Theatre. All of us Scots would give him a highland welcome.
