RE: Travel insurance.

I personally have never bought insurance but then i was fit and healthy. What you need to look out for is repatriation because the E111 doesn't cover THAT (no good for the states granted) I'd be inclined to get the proper and correct insurance or even having a waiver that didn't cover the asthma. That way it should still be cheaper and yet still cover you for getting back home.

PS - love the idea of the charity line for the Drive and disco tickets but need mr bp to do this for me - gulp .......

Baggy... from previous blog.., please get travel insurance for NYC... i was there in Feb this year and suffered an injury to my eye - I'll spare you all the details. Anyway, ended up in St Luke's A&E and was looked after very well but the shocker was being led to the cashier to pay, before I could leave!!! A significant hundred quid later on the ol' credit card later, and another huge amount of money for medicine at the drug store - let's just say I am so glad it was only a self inflicted minor scratch to my cornea!

It made me thankful for our health care system here... for all it's problems!!!

A few years ago, when our children were younger and even more demanding, my friend's husband got enough air miles to fly her to New York. He went over for business and she flew out on her own a few days later. I was so envious - not just of New York but all those hours of peace and aloneness on the plane!

seza - i would love mr bp to come with me and would have found the pennies but hes not good travelling, ive already got an agreement with my friend that we are not joined at the hip so i can do bits of NY on my own, really looking forward to it, as well as being with friends for the nightlife

Super Beep - have you looked at your bank account? We upgraded ours with Berkleys and it includes loads of extras - from travel insurance to gadget insurance and many others along the way.
It costs obviously, but I don't think that you have to commit for a long period of time. You could possibly revert back after the holiday.....Just a thought!

Hi all

Just popping in to put my twopennorth. I love long haul flying but, like Steve, I refuse to jump through all the hoops to get to what is supposed to be a country with whom we have a 'special relationship'. Especially as the citizens of that country do not have to meet such stringent requirements to get into this country...... We even have to pick and choose our cruises to avoid leaving from the US - they make you jump through the hoops even if you are just transferring from a plane to a ship (or even another plane out of there.......).

On a calmer note, hope I'm not too late for FNWC. Glass of the old Merlot on the go at the moment and watching New Tricks (taping the David Attenborough thingy).

One more week at the coal face, then a few weeks off to regroup and go on hols etc. Boss has a week off next week so she has already thanked me etc....

Well, gettin SO EXCITED about meeting you all on the 19th gang! Am trying to plan my journey and as I dont have the option to stay over night and it looks like Ill have to get up at dirty o clock to get there, never mind, I love a challenge me! So when you spot a bewildered looking female (its been 12 years since Ive battled thru a london rush hour) clutchin a can of the stuff that gives you wings sporting Panda eyes, youll know who it is!

I've done the trans-atlantic trip twice, to Cuba and to the Dom Rep, with the entire family!

I would never do it for a couple of days, nor will I go back to those countries it seems, and am fed up with trying to be brave getting on a plane, so will probably never fly again, but that doesn't bother me!!

There are so many wonderful places in this country that I still want to see, I'm just not bothered about other places!

Evening Oz. My claustrophobia kicks in when on a plane and I have to convince myself I'm on a bus, and can't look out the window. Have decided I'm not going to put myself through that again. And Scotland is so beautiful, why would I need to go anywhere else? Travelled through Perthshire today on the Songbus and it was gorgeous - Pitlochry, Aberfeldy, The Sma' Glen, Glen Lyon, Loch Tummel, Loch Tay and the River Garry. Heaven on earth.

On the subject of travelling . . . . I agree about the places to see in the UK but lets face facts . .the ONLY reason people go abroad is for the weather. That an the fact that we're being ripped off in this country.


Just out of interest . . the new pampers advert about giving money for a vaccine to UNICEF (1 vac = 4.4p) now excuse me . . .. i bet the NHS doesn't get it that cheap :(

When it costs upwards of £80pn for a hotel room and it costs more to get from midlands to scotland on a train than it does to get from Stansted to spain then you know we're in deep trouble.

I would rather get togged up in my wet weather gear than get on another plane!

There is nothing better than experiencing other cultures. Be it how they live, how they communicate, how they socialise or more to the point - what they drink!

We tend to split our holidays between 'abroad' and home fairly evenly. The best holiday of the last two years was without doubt the Isle Of Wight. Of the last five years, it would have to be our two weeks in a small Cretan fishing village, renting one of the local's apartments. Yes - the weather was good, but the children still remember how welcomed they were by nearly everyone they met. They recall the fish being bbq'd on stakes.
They remember the farms and the animals and most importantly - they still eat the food!
At home they scoff olives and relish cheese baked on the bbq. When we go out to restaurants they skip over the chicken nugget option and opt to share an adult portion of one of the other dishes on offer. They also love the fact that wherever we go to eat in this wonderful country. They can both say 'Hello, goodbye, please and thank you' in most of the languages.

Sorry buddy, but it;s more than weather!

USA may make demands on us that we don’t make on them... but hey ho... let them be fussy and dogmatic. It remains a fascinating country...

And my advice to those that don’t like flying – which I don’t – what is alcohol for... take my advice – a long haul flight is the best excuse to have a few beers too many and sleep... zzzzzzzzzz. Bump Bump - you've landed and awake... perfect. xxx

JG... word to the wise... I know exactly what you mean - but I suprised myself one day - the boys grew up and had their own life. So decided that I had to be brave and do things on my own - and I did. But it was a huge step to take.

And now I travel on my own all over the place...

Regardless - life is an adventure - no matter where you journey to or where you choose to be...

Forget the nicotine gum... when you can't have a fag - you don't actually think about it - well... until the plane lands... or the bus stops...

Suzie, the last time I was single, I travelled to Greece and to Cyprus on my own, but in the knowledge that someone was meeting me there! Even though I'd not actually met them...I'm sure I'll get to that place in my my mind again, just not now...

All I can focus on is "get to work, do work, and get back home", survive evening, and repeat 5 times!

It sounds crass, but that is it... !! And then I sleep, for as long as I need to, tidy/clean up and repeat....
