Ladyhawke - 'My Delirium'

LadyhawkeIt takes a certain amount of nerve to put a single out this late into the Christmas season without a single solitary sleighbell or festive reference, don't you think? Especially a song which definitely does not offer goodwill to all men, or look back on the past year with affection.

In fact, if you're the man who has been interfering with Phillipa 'Ladyhawke' Brown's delirium, the very last thing she is offering you is goodwill. Quite the reverse, in fact.

Mind you, it's not as if the festive season is entirely unrepresented by this strident new wave rave-up. The Killers and Kaiser Chiefs have clubbed together and gift-wrapped their sound, complete with an elaborate stripy ribbon, and left it in Pip's stocking, for her to do with as she pleases.

Not that she sounds remotely grateful. That sulky, mardy-teen voice is the exact opposite of any try-hard X Factor contestent. You can't imagine anyone whose throat carries such an audible pout getting behind a song about heroes, or something about triumph from the top of a mountain.

Still, a good pop song is a good pop song, no matter how grumpily delivered. Consider this an alternative carol for anyone who has already had enough of tinsel, presents and angels from on high.
