Five years into the show, and the first appearance by the Boomtown Rats. What'sÌýgoing on there then ? The first 'new wave' band to have aÌýnumber one, leading lights of the Dublin punk scene, former NME writer singing ? Not good enough to prevent their punk rock licences being revoked it seems. Their debut single, played tonight, is a good approximation of a speeded up 'Gloria', although don't look at the video.ÌýBob Geldof once saw Eddie & The Hot Rods playing in Dubiln in 1976 and is reported to have said to Phil Chevron of TheÌýRadiators From Space that Eddie and his chums were not as good as 'your lot or my lot'.ÌýIt's notÌýthe subject of fierce debateÌýin homes up and down our land, but I wouldÌýsay that , for once, Bob was wrong. Was it really "lookin' after No 1" and not "looking". In my book, that's enough to disqualify anyone from having their record played. It isn't even shorter.

    Jethro.

PS the other side of the Mekons record is worth playing too. Have to Dance then, on my own.
