ADAM AND JOE-MEN

Hey there Blog People!

Ìý

Check out these amazing cut-out Adam and Joe figures designed by the extraordinarily talented and resourceful . Sally has even reproduced the exact clothes we were wearing for the Camden Crawl, right down to Adam's tall hat and my hilarious and highly fashionable Bart Marley T-Shirt.

Adam And Joe-Men

Ìý

Thanks to Sally, you can even , then cut them out and make yourself mini Adam and Joe-men. Adam and Joe-men are to summer what Snow-men are to winter, you see? Then you can operate them like little puppets while listening to the show, and it'll be as if tiny, square headed, better looking cardboard versions of us are right there in the room with you! It'll be like a dream come true, so long as you have at some point in the past dreamt that we were very small, hollow and cardboard. But please do not touch your little cardboard men inappropriately, as they might well act like tiny voodoo dolls, and get us overexcited.

Ìý

Thank you for your attention. Bye!

Black Squadron DedicationWe've had an email from across the pond documenting some impressive BS devotion...

Ìý

"Joe and Adam,

Ìý

My sister and I are avid listeners to your show, but we live in the United States, in Florida, and therefore cannot listen to your live show (considering it starts at 4 in the morning here). However now it's summer vacation, so we decided why the heck not? So we woke up at 4 in the morning to listen to your show and we are enjoying being able to listen to all of your show, not just the highlights. For the duration of the summer, we will be Black Squadron members:-D. Attached are some pictures of us following your commands (some making up for lost time). We love ALL of your show, none of those "except"s from us.

Ìý

Much love,

Emma and Vivian"

Can any Black Squadron members prove they are more dedicated than this?

RETRO TEXT THE NATION

Post categories:

Joe Cornish Joe Cornish | 14:55 UK time, Monday, 8 June 2009

Hello Bloglodytes. Due to high levels of revoltocity, we have decided to put this week's Retro Text the Nation here on the blog rather than in the actual podcast. This is for three reasons. Firstly, this week's podcast is quite long enough already without it. Secondly, we thought it would be a good way to get you used to the idea of coming to this blog to find special exclusive audio nuggets. There will be more bits of audio and video popping up here (and here alone) in the coming days and weeks. Thirdly, and most importantly, this week's RTTN is so revolting that we think you should elect to listen to it, rather than having it forced down your ears in the middle of an otherwise non-retch inducing podcast.

Ìý

The theme is revolting personal habits. Don't worry, we steer away from bathroom-area anecdotes. But do worry, because the anecdotes we do read out are quite revolting enough without straying into the bathroom area. Please remember while you listen to this that it was ADAM'S IDEA not mine. I repeat, this was ADAM'S IDEA. Enjoy!

WHY NOT MAKE YOUR OWN TEXT THE NATION JINGLE?

Post categories: ,Ìý

Adam Buxton Adam Buxton | 20:42 UK time, Saturday, 6 June 2009

That's a rhetorical question. Of course there are many, many reasons you might decide not to make your own Text The Nation jingle. I tried to count them just now and stopped when I got to 650. There are however, two significant reasons why you should have a go at crafting your own version of what I like to think of as the most successful jingle in the history of radio:

1. It might get played on our 6 Music show.
2. Making jingles is fun!

There are a couple of ways you could approach the project. You could either make your own completed jingle incorporating whatever elements of the original you deem suitable, as with the Stephen Hawking computer voice jingle below, or you could create a new musical 'bed' and submit it for us to supply a vocal later on, which was the process with Lee Henman's Rock version of TTN, also below. There's no guarantee we'll use the jingle on the show (if you want guarantees, go and buy some electronic equipment, yeah?) but we'll certainly listen excitedly to everything you create. Knock yourselves out! You shouldn't literally knock yourselves out, that would be dangerous and weird, just try to have so much fun making your jingle that you start to feel faint, but stop before you actually pass out.

INTERNATIONAL STEPHENAGE

Post categories: ,Ìý

Jane Long Jane Long | 16:50 UK time, Saturday, 6 June 2009

We've had a report that theÌýStephenage phenomenonÌýis crossing borders. Over to listener Mr James Matthew George Melling...

Ìý

"On a recent boys' jolly to Primavera Sound in Barcelona we achieved some International Stephenage. I would not usually go in for this type of thing but you must first understand it was Bat for Lashes. Secondly, although I no doubt guess Stephenage will be rife by the end of the festival season, Primavera usually only has a small British contingent, making successful Stephenage even more of an endeavour.

Ìý

It is almost needless to say that we felt it was our duty to you to attempt some Stephenage during Bat for Lashes. We attempted it a after a couple of songs but had no response, just some sniggers. However, much later in the set we heard a Stephen! which we both managed to answer and capture briefly on my camera.

Ìý

What was amusing was that some Catalans near us started shouting out their names (or perhaps just random Spanish names) at Bat for Lashes and continued to do so providing hilarity to all, yet disappointingly misunderstanding Stephenage."

Has anyone experienced Stephenage any further afield than Spain?

Are you confused by the mentions of theÌý'Stephen' shout-out on the show? Have you failed to listen regularly for the last year or two?

Ìý

Then HOW DARE YOU! WHY NOT??? EXPLAIN YOURSELF! Actually, don't worry. Instead check out this brilliant animation created by brilliant animation-creating man Chris Bowles. All will be explained, this time with life-like, moving images to enjoy whilst listening. Great work from the Bowler!
