The Moray Firth

Description

Trainee Tour Guide Tess visits the Moray Firth to see if she can spot seals and dolphins. Inverness stands at the mouth of the River Ness at the end of the Great Glen. The water flows into the Moray Firth, Scotland鈥檚 largest estuary, where fresh water from the river mixes with salt water from the sea. The Firth is home to dolphins and seals.

Classroom Ideas

Students could identify the Moray Firth and describe some of places nearby. They could also identify the rivers that run into the Firth and consider why it is a mix of fresh and sea water. Students could then be shown a series of animals that can be found in and around the Firth. They could match these animals to their name, what they feed on and their habitat.
