The life cycle and inhabitants of an oak tree

Description

Watch the oak tree change through the seasons. Acorns falling from the oak tree are often eaten by squirrels, or buried to eat over the winter. Many insects and birds make the oak tree their home - making nests in the boughs, or eating its leaves. Other creatures like living at the bottom of the tree, eating dead leaves.

Classroom Ideas

This clip provides breadth of study when studying animals and their habitats, as well as 鈥業nterdependence and Adaptation鈥. Pupils could list all the animals that live in or rely upon the oak tree. Identify what the animals need the tree for, such as shelter and food. Discuss the effects of chopping down the tree on the organisms that depend on it. Design a poster to save and protect the trees in the school grounds.
