Manic Street Preachers released their first album Generation Terrorists in 1992 amid a mix of hyperbole and scepticism about the band.

While the band themselves said they would sell a million copies of the record, play Wembley and then split up, their mix of glam, punk and metal didn't quite ignite the public as they planned.

But songs such as Motorcycle Emptiness, seen here being performed on Top Of The Pops, gave an indication of a great ability to write huge choruses. It has since become a bona fide classic.
