Cheering crowds line the streets as the royal couple continue their tour of the Channel Islands.
During visits to Jersey, Guernsey and Sark, they meet islanders and discover more about their way of life. On the tiny island of Sark, Prince Philip voices his admiration for the conduct of the islanders during the war.
The Channel Islands were the only part of the British Isles to be occupied by the Germans during World War II. In May 1940, Winston Churchill had ruled that the islands were impossible to defend due to their proximity to the French mainland.
The picture shows the Royal couple at a horse race in 1949.
