1981: Humber Bridge opens
The Humber Bridge between East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire opens on 24 June 1981.
It was the longest-spanning suspension bridge in the world until the opening of the Japanese Akashi Kaikyo Bridge in 1998.
The bridge was granted Grade I listed status in 2017 to mark Hull as the UK City of Culture.
