Tottenham have ended a five-game winless run against German opposition in the Champions League (D1 L4), with this their first such victory since beating Borussia Dortmund in March 2019 (1-0).

Eintracht Frankfurt suffered their first defeat in eight away matches in Europe (W6 D1). The last was in August 2020 in the Europa League (1-0 at Basel).

Harry Kane and Son Heung-min have combined for 50 goals in all competitions for Tottenham Hotspur, with Kane assisting Son 24 times, and Son assisting Kane 26 times.

Harry Kane has missed two of his last four penalties for Tottenham, having scored 21 successive spot kicks for Spurs before this.

This was Marseille's first away win in the Champions League in over a decade.

They ended a run of nine consecutive away defeats in the tournament, winning on their travels for the first time since December 2011 against Borussia Dortmund.

Gavi made his 10th Champions League appearance for Barcelona in this game (18y 68d), becoming the fourth-youngest player in the competition’s history to reach double figures, after Youri Tielemans, Jude Bellingham and Bojan.

Robert Lewandowski has netted five goals in two games for Barcelona in the Champions League at the Nou Camp - the most by a player in his first two home games for the club in the competition.

"Special, particularly Mo [Salah]. Very important how we adapted to the positions, to the line-up. Everyone who started tonight played really well - Fabio [Carvalho] and Harvey [Elliott], really good. It's the best we could have asked for. I'm really pleased.

"I really think the first half prepared the second half. When we are on it, we can be a really good football team. We built on the good things from the first half, we kept them moving and obviously they had to change the centre-half.

Viktoria have conceded 16 goals in four games. Only Bate Borisov (19) in 2014-15 have conceded more goals after four matchdays in a single campaign.

Sporting have had three players sent off in the Champions League this season, all against Marseille in the last two games.

No side have had more players sent off against an opponent in a single campaign in the tournament.

They also made history as the first team to make three subs in a Champions League game by the 35th minute.

Since the start of last season, Tottenham have seen their opponents receive 10 red cards in all competitions, more than any other Premier League side.

Barcelona failed to win a Champions League home game when leading at half-time for the first time since December 2018, a 1-1 draw with Spurs.

Xabi Alonso became the seventh different Bayer Leverkusen manager to lose his first Champions League match, with this the heaviest defeat of those seven.

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham boss Antonio Conte to BT Sport: "We scored good goals. We suffered. We had to try to handle the situation. We had to stay in the game.

"We started in a very difficult way, conceding the first goal. We scored three goals and had big chances. In the end we are leading our group. We have to try to beat Sporting and go to the next round.

"Until the end we have to stay focused. It would have been a disaster if we drew a game like this."

On Harry Kane and Son Heung-min's partnership: "We work a lot during the week to try to have good combination between our strikers. Today they showed great link-up. Richarlison played a good game. He had a problem in his knee. I hope it's nothing serious for Saturday's game with Everton. We should have Kulusevski for that game. He's an important option for us. He's vital."

On their next Champions League game: "Step by step. Next game is Everton. They started not really well but now they're playing good football. They're a really good team with a good manager. Tomorrow we rest and then on Friday we prepare the game."

Tottenham have won 11 of their last 12 European home games, keeping a clean sheet in seven of those.

The only 'defeat' in that run was the walkover given to Rennes in last season's Conference League after a Covid outbreak at Spurs.
