City’s Joao Cancelo has been involved in seven goals in his last 10 Champions League matches, scoring twice and assisting five.

Tonight was the second time he has assisted more than once in a match in the competition. He set up three against Club Bruges last season.

Erling Haaland is the first Manchester City player to score on both his Premier League debut and Champions League debut for the club.

Asked if he was pleased with City's performance, boss Pep Guardiola said: "In terms of result, yes. We make not a good first half, we wanted to attack too quick. When they were playing better, we scored the second one with a brilliant action from Phil. After that, it was easy.

On Erling Haaland: "I think his numbers across his career, not just here, is quite similar. So he has an incredible sense of goal. We have incredible numbers in scoring goals, so we want to continue like that. Another battle next Saturday against Tottenham, so hopefully he can continue scoring goals."

On Phil Foden: Phil has an incredible thing, lately he is not playing so good like normally. But he’ll always do a job and always run and always fight for the team. I’m pretty sure the goal and the assist today will help him."

Judging Manuel Akanji's debut: "Really good. He trained only one and a half of two days, nothing more than that. But we knew he is strong and intelligent with the ball. Man City brought me and the club a fantastic player."

Erling Haaland is the fourth player to score on his Champions League debut for at least three different clubs (Salzburg, Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City), after Fernando Morientes (four clubs), Javier Saviola and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

But don't worry - he has a record too. Haaland is the first to score at least twice on his debut for three different clubs.

Manchester City had 24 shots tonight.

Only twice have they had more in a single Champions League match - 25 against Napoli in September 2011 and Borussia Monchengladbach in September 2015.

Both of those games were much tighter. They drew 1-1 with Napoli and needed a Sergio Aguero goal in the final minute to beat Gladbach 2-1.

This was Manchester City’s biggest ever win against Spanish opposition.

Manchester City debutant Manuel Akanji to BT Sport: "It's my first game here, the guys supported me really well. They made it pretty easy for me, I’m happy for that. It was an intense away game but I’m happy to keep a clean sheet as well as the three points.

"He [Erling Haaland] texted me before I came here and obviously when Man City called, I didn’t have to think twice. And he only told me good things about the club."

Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne to BT Sport: "Obviously it's a very nice stadium to come to, the crowd is on it. The first away game is very important, you have to set a tone and I think we did that today."

On his link-up with Erling Haaland: "I try to do my job. Make the right movements and try to create as many chances as I can and I know one way or another, Erling is going to be there. For the moment, he is scoring the goals so it helps us win the games.

"I think the way he's adapted to us is really good but I think outside the goalscoring there’s still another part in the game and I think that part is more tough to adapt to. It makes it more exciting! If he can adjust to the way we play, then the levels will go up."

Uefa gave the man of the match award to Kevin de Bruyne. Thumbs up if you agree with that, and thumbs down if you'd give it to Erling Haaland or someone else.

Maccabi Haifa have not scored a Champions League goal since 2002.

Mbappe has now scored 35 Champions League goals. Only PSG team-mate Lionel Messi - with 37 - managed more before the age of 24.

Mbappe has the rest of the group stages before he reaches that age.

Well done to Shakhtar Donetsk, who - with a starting line-up of 10 Ukrainians - hammered Bundesliga side Leipzig in Germany.

Former Celtic striker Marian Shved scored twice on his debut, having returned to his homeland on deadline day from Mechelen.

Lassina Traore, one of the few foreign players to stay at the club despite the option of leaving, netted a late fourth.

Shakhtar lost all their away games last season in the Champions League - even with their big-money Brazilians.

They will play their home games in Poland in this season's tournament.

This Man City team didn't really get out of first gear. They just chilled, stroked the ball about, upped the gears when they needed to and got goals at good times. I think the manager will be happy.

That is Sevilla's joint-biggest home defeat in European competition. Both have been against English teams in recent times.

They were beaten 4-0 by Chelsea - also in the Champions League group stages - in December 2020.

It's all over. Sevilla fans are furious with their side's performance - but Manchester City don't care. This was a thoroughly impressive victory.
