How did you rate the players as England secure record-breaking 8-0 win over Norway in their second match at Euro 2022.

Tonight has been about more than just qualifying for the knockout rounds.

This was special performance from a team growing in front of an adoring public. They're fighters earning the right to really strut their stuff.

There is still a long way to go in this tournament, but the Lionesses have ensured they'll have their public with them every step of the way.

So that is England through to the last eight as group winners. It is between Austria and Norway for second place. They face each other on Friday as the Lionesses face Northern Ireland.

Germany or Spain are likely to await Sarina Wiegman's side in the quarter-finals.

England women have become the first side in European Championship history (both men's & women's) to score more than six goals in a single game, while their 8-0 win this evening against Norway was the biggest margin of victory in a Uefa Women’s Euros match.

The Lionesses' six first half goals equalled the most goals ever scored by a team in a full game in Uefa Women's Euros history before this evening (Germany 6-2 v England in 2009 and England 6-0 v Scotland in 2017).

England

England manager Sarina Wiegman: "We kept playing the way we did in the second half when we were already up 6-0. I’m just really happy with the performance of the whole team."

Did she enjoy it? “Very much! I think you could see. We were 2-0 up pretty quickly then we got momentum and we could just play the possession game. We had so much space to create chances and score goals. You could really tell the players enjoyed it on the pitch."

On the fans: “I hoped they enjoyed it. We want to make the nation proud. We tried to play our best game and today we did. We didn’t win anything yet. We have to stay grounded.

"I think I can be very satisfied tonight."

England forward Alessia Russo, speaking to ���˿��� Two: "Tonight was really special. Maybe we fell short a little bit before this tournament when it comes to being ruthless. The type of goals we scored were amazing.

"Scoring the goal was unbelievable. It’s what dreams are made of. In front of all the home fans, it was spectacular tonight.

"I’ve got a few people here tonight because Brighton isn’t too far from where I’m from. It’s amazing to have them here.

"We’re all extremely thrilled. We’ve got to remember we’re still in the group stage. There are lots more big games to come but we’re thriving in it and looking forward to what comes next.

"It’s almost like a ‘pinch me’ moment. Having all the fans out there was great to see.

"We want to win every game in this tournament. We’ll go back to the training ground tomorrow and get back to it."

Norway

Norway coach Martin Sjogren “Of course, it will be hard to forget it.”

Can they bounce back from it? “Nothing should fall back on the players on a night like this. It is totally my responsibility that we lost 8-0.

“Everyone feels devastated about the way we looked tonight. I really feel terrible for the players sake to be beaten by England 8-0 in a game we had been looking forward to for quite some time. The last 80-85 minutes were more or less horrible to be honest.

“England played well. They made it hard for us. I also think we made it a little bit too easy for them losing the ball in very dangerous places. But you make mistakes when you play good teams.”

Former Norway international John Arne Riise on ���˿��� Two: "The good thing is that Norway have another game. If they win this they go through. Martin Sjoegren will get slaughtered in the media at home. I was shocked how weak Norway were. It was an embarrassing watch. They need to show character on Friday."

The smile says it all. The performance was fantastic. Norway were weak and poor, they didn't really show up. Sarina spoke about being calm in front of goal. England did that today.

The interesting thing will be if she changes her side or tries to keep momentum going into the quarter-finals.

England striker Ellen White, speaking to ���˿��� Two: "Incredible. I don’t even know how to describe it. You could probably see it in our faces in that first half, it was just unreal. Another two goals in the second half – it’s just crazy. Mental.

"It’s amazing to score for England. It’s a real honour for me. I’m surrounded by phenomenally talented players. I feel so lucky.

"Beth Mead is unbelievable. She’s such a lovely person. She’s English so we’re very happy. I’m super proud of the squad and hopefully everyone watching is proud of this England team as well.

"Obviously 8-0 is a big statement, but we’re staying cool and collected. We’re focused on our own task but delighted to come away with an 8-0 win, a clean sheet and three points.

"The noise and the atmosphere is absolutely insane. We’re so thankful for that support. Hopefully we can continue to grow as a team but I hope everyone’s proud of us.

"It’s not going to be easy to sleep. We’ll enjoy it tonight then look forward to facing Northern Ireland."

On equalling Wayne Rooney's England goalscoring record: "It’s not something I’m thinking about. It’s an honour for me, so anywhere I can help this team, I’m happy to do it."

We really exploited their weaknesses and we’re really happy, but at the same time it’s just one game. We’ll enjoy the moment but we’ll stay really grounded.

"'What’s going on here?' That was going through my mind. Norway didn’t have the answers. We created chances, scored goals and it was very enjoyable to watch.

"Games can go really strange. We’ve seen so many games when it’s 3-0 and goes to 3-3, but when it went to 4-0 and 5-0 I thought they’re not going to recover from this.

"Norway didn’t have the best game today. We’re really happy with the performance. We showed how good we are. When we go through [from the group stage] we’ll get tested at a higher level. We need to do better every game.

"We really showed our qualities. The fans have been really nice again, almost 30,000 of them. We just need to enjoy that moment, relax a little bit then start preparing for the next game."
