The Chelsea players just want to play the games now, they know the standards that have been set by Frank Lampard and they want to take the opportunities because you never know when the next one will come again.

Rennes like to play out from the back. It costs them at times, so they are vulnerable like this Chelsea team who do also overplay at times.

Massive, massive, massive chance for Timo Werner as Callum Hudson-Odoi plays a brilliant ball in from the right and Werner gets free of the defence, he has a tap in but balloons the ball over the bar.

Rennes escape.

That red card in the first half really rocked Rennes in the game at Stamford Bridge earlier this month so it will be interesting to see how they get on tonight if they keep all 11 players on the pitch.

The first opportunity goes Chelsea's way, however, as Ben Chilwell finds himself in behind following a ball over the top but his shot is blocked.

It will be a tough game for both teams tonight. Rennes have stuttered of late but they will be looking to make their mark this evening.

Chelsea are in a fortunate position due to the strength in depth they have.

The communication at the back is a big thing. Four of the five at the back can speak French and that helps and allows players to settle.

The organisation from Thiago Silva is there and you see it in small instances throughout the games.

Data analysts Gracenote say Chelsea have 99.7% chance of progressing to the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Simon Gleave, head of sports analysis at Nielsen's Gracenote, said: "The only real issue in Group E is whether Sevilla or Chelsea top the pool as both are all but through to the knockout stages."

Erling Braut Haaland is rightly getting the praise for being one of the most exciting youngsters in world football right now, but Rennes have plenty of exciting young talent.

One of those is 18-year-old midfielder Eduardo Camavinga. He has already been capped three times by the senior France team, scoring one goal, and is said to have some of the world's biggest clubs scrambling for his signature.

How big a part could he play tonight?

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard, speaking to BT Sport: "It would be nice (to qualify tonight). It is just as important to try and win the game against a strong opponent. I have a lot of respect for them as a team.

"I want to see the qualities we have been showing, we are playing well and showing focus. There are a few changes in the starting line up. I have to do that, I want energy in the team."

Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham is looking to become the first Blues player to score in four consecutive Champions League starts since Nicolas Anelka in February 2011 (five in a row).

No pressure Chelsea players, but your boss is absolutely desperate to get qualification wrapped up early to help alleviate the strain of playing eight games in December.

"I have looked at the schedule and it is brutal," says Frank Lampard. "We play Arsenal on Boxing Day and then Aston Villa two days later.

"We need to try to win this game and if we can get into the next round then we could rest players, but we still want to win the group. I am confident in the squad, even if we rotate."

Edouard Mendy has been superb since joining Chelsea and has let in just two goals in his nine appearances for the club.

The Blues are yet to concede a goal in the Champions League and Mendy will be determined to continue that against his former side.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is chuffed with the impact Mendy has had.

"He has settled off the pitch and is performing on the pitch, you can’t ask any more than that," Lampard told Chelsea TV.

"And he is doing it with a smile on his face and with a really great attitude. So I’m really pleased, it’s a good start for him in a Chelsea shirt. Long may that continue."
