  1. 'It is how you respond'published at 14:22 British Summer Time 10 October 2023

England bowler Reece Topley on Sky Sports: "It鈥檚 a step in the right direction after New Zealand, which didn鈥檛 go to plan. It鈥檚 nice to play with a similar blueprint. Afghanistan in Delhi is likely to be more like their conditions than ours.

"If you鈥檙e going about it in the right way, when you鈥檝e got talented players in the changing room, hopefully you鈥檙e on the right end of results. If you鈥檙e on the front foot, you can have an advantage straight away.

"The beauty of this World Cup is that different pitches will pose different challenges. There might be a different line-up in Delhi. It鈥檚 a squad effort. Everyone wants to play. When we are left out, it is how you respond. Getting those early wickets makes you feel like you belong again."

  2. 'A fantastic score on that pitch'published at 14:20 British Summer Time 10 October 2023

England captain Jos Buttler: "I think it was a really good performance to bounce back from a disappointing first game and we still feel there are areas to improve."

What did you hope to improve on?: "I thought it was a fantastic score on that pitch, it got harder towards the end but we could've got more at the back end. Some big partnerships at the start, excellent from Dawid Malan to take a lead."

How do you strike the balance of being as good as possible in all areas of the game?: "I think you're always looking for the perfect performance, the turnover from 30-40 we scored about 100 runs. That 30-40 period was very smart. There's not many times you come off and don't think there's many areas to improve which is great."

How do you see your squad and rotation going into the next game?: "It's going to be one of the challenges of the tournament, reading the pitch well and our options. The guys on the bench are great, we've got different options. Reece Topley was great today coming in and got big early wickets in the powerplay."

Bangladesh played with the rest of the tournament in mind as they batted for as long as possible to protect their net run-rate.

They were eventually bowled out with 10 balls left in the innings as Sam Curran cleaned up Taskin Ahmed...

  4. 'We had a good plan, but we couldn't execute'published at 14:17 British Summer Time 10 October 2023

Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan: "It was colder weather than the last game, you could even see the snow. That could have helped our bowlers, but we didn't start well enough. If you give them a sniff, they will always come hard.

"We had a good plan, but we couldn't execute. The ball swung nicely for five or six overs, but we couldn't land the ball often enough.

"They could have scored 380 or 390, but we restricted them well. 330 we might have fancied our chances, but we needed a good start and didn't get that.

"It's a long tournament and we can't put our heads down. We have to move on and think all of the positives we have been doing, focus on one game at a time."

Reece Topley was superb in his first appearance at this World Cup.

After taking those three early wickets to effectively end Bangladesh's hopes, he came back and made absolutely sure with the wicket of Mushfiqur Rahim later in the innings...

Reece Topley has put the cat amongst the pigeons in terms of who they want there bowling, taking three important wickets at the top of the order.

  7. 'I've always had ability against spin'published at 14:11 British Summer Time 10 October 2023

England batter and player of the match Dawid Malan: "I'm going to say experience if anything. It's nice to contribute, it's been a long journey to get here. I don't know what it's down to but hopefully, it continues."

How much do you think you've worked on your game against spin?: "I think sometimes, people create a narrative of something that isn't there to support their writing or views, it has always been there, sometimes you play good shots, sometimes you play bad shots. It is about cashing in when you can."

Does it help when your number three batter is Joe Root, can you express yourselves more?: "When you've got Joe Root at number three, it allows us to play with freedom."

Is it your experience that is allowing you to score big hundreds recently when you have got settled in a game?: "Maybe a bit of hunger, I'm desperate to do well in this format and prove a point that I deserve to be in there."

Unsurprisingly, Dawid Malan has been named player of the match and says having Joe Root at three allows the other batters to play with freedom.

We'll have more from that interview for you shortly.

It all comes back to the topic of the day, Len: net run-rate!

Speaking of which, England's NRR is back into the positive. That New Zealand thumping has been wiped out and more in one go.

Is there any point in continuing a match when the chasing team's required run-rate exceeds 36 per over?

It's not the sort of pitch you are going to roll a team out on, but England have done it with 10 balls to spare. A comprehensive victory.

Some good individual performances for England. Root's innings was very clever.

  12. wicket

England win by 137 runspublished at 48.2 overs

    Taskin b S Curran 15 (Ban 227 all out)

Sam Curran does get his wicket and England complete a victory that has been assured for some time.

The previous ball gave leg stump a healthy clunk on the way through to Jos Buttler but somehow failed to dislodge the bails.

No bother for Curran, he adjusts slightly and hit middle a third of the way up as Taskin Ahmed swings and misses.

And here is the one wicket for Mark Wood as he made a mess of Shoriful Islam's stumps...

  14. Ban 227-9published at 48 overs

    Target 365

Slower ball to finish from Mark Wood and Mustafizur Rahman plays and misses.

Very economical from Wood, who records figures of 1-29 from his 10.
