It does look good for batting. I wouldn't want to bowl on it!

It's nice to get runs on the board but I don't think it will make a massive difference to the result. If England play at their absolute best, they should chase any target on this pitch.

Yes, Matthew, there have been a few issues around weather in this tournament, especially in Melbourne, but thankfully it looks like a lovely evening.

You couldn’t ask for better conditions for a win-or-bust match. The weather will not be troubling us tonight. England just need to do the business on the field.

  5. 'We will have to adapt'published at 07:39 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November 2022

England captain Jos Buttler: "We would have batted first - it's a used wicket and we will have to bat well. These are the games you want to play in as a cricketer and we will do our best to get through to the next round.

"We will have to work out the pitch and adapt to the surface as batters. We have plenty of options with the ball."

Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka: "It's a used wicket and we have had success batting first here before.

"It is still a very important game for us - we know we can't go through but it's important for us to carry some pride.

"The pitch here is good for spinners. We found some turn against New Zealand so I hope that will be the same for us tonight."

A crowd of just over 20,000 is expected here. Sri Lanka have been well supported during the tournament and it feels like they will be again. England’s fans could be outnumbered.

We are due to get under way at 08:00 GMT. The toss is just about to take place, and we'll confirm both two teams shortly.

England had a minor fitness concern over Liam Livingstone, who had been struggling with an ankle injury, but it sounds like the big-hitting Lancashire batter will be fit to play.

The maths boffins and stats gurus were rubbing their hands with glee earlier this week, in expectation that net run-rate would be pivotal to England's chances of reaching the T20 World Cup final.

earlier in the week, however, has made the equation quite simple.

Victory by any margin in their final group game against Sri Lanka today and Jos Buttler's side will secure their place in the last four.
